- The Crawlerway is a 130-foot-wide (40 m) double pathway at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It runs between the Vehicle Assembly Building and the two launch pads at Launch Complex 39. It has a length of 3.4 and 4.2 miles (5.5 and 6.8 km) to Pad 39A and Pad 39B, respectively. A seven-foot (2 m) bed of stones lies beneath a layer of asphalt and a surface made of Tennessee river rocks. The Crawlerway was originally designed to support the weight of the Saturn V rocket and its payload, plus the Launch Umbilical Tower and mobile launcher platform, atop a crawler-transporter during the Apollo program. It was also used from 1981 to 2011 to transport the lighter Space Shuttles to their launch pads. Construction of the Crawlerway connected Merritt Island with the mainland, forming a peninsula. The main vehicle access road to and from the launch pads, the Saturn Causeway, runs alongside the Crawlerway. (en)
- La Crawlerway est une double voie de 40 mètres de large et d'un peu moins de 7 kilomètres au centre spatial Kennedy, en Floride, entre le Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) et les deux aires de lancement du complexe de lancement 39 (39A et 39B). La voie est récouverte d'une couche d'asphalte, elle-même récouvrant un lit de pierres en roches du Tennessee. La Crawlerway a été conçue lors du programme Apollo pour supporter le poids d'une fusée Saturn V et de sa charge utile, ainsi que sa tour de lancement et sa (en) (MLP), portés par un engin de transport crawler — qui lui donne son nom —, soit 8 165 tonnes. Elle a été utilisée également de 1981 à 2011 pour transporter les navettes spatiales plus légères vers leurs aires de lancement. La construction de la Crawlerway relie Merritt Island au continent, formant donc une péninsule. La Crawlerway est inscrite au registre national des lieux historiques depuis le 31 janvier 2000.
