- يُطلق مسمّى «موظف الصحة المجتمعية» على موقع وظيفي معين لعامل الصحة المجتمعية تمّ تطويره في البرازيل في العام 1991 من خلال PACS (برنامج عمال الصحة المجتمعية)وذلك كجزء من إنشاء والذي أوجده النظام الدستوري في عام 1988.موظف الصحة العامة، والذي قيل أنه استلهم فكرته من البرنامج الصيني أطباء حفاة الأقدام، هو شخص غير مؤهل أكاديمياً لممارسة الطب أو التمريض،إلا أنه يمتلك صلاحية القيام بمهمة أولية تتمثل في جمع المعلومات عن الوضع الصحي في تجمع سكاني صغير من خلال قرب العلاقة به. فالتصميم الأولي يُحتّم على هذا الموظف أن يكون أحد المقيمين في شارع، حي، أو منطقة محيطة، وأن يكون قد تم اختياره بناءً على أسس العلاقة الطيبة بجيرانه، بالإضافة إلى قدرته تكريس ثمان ساعات يومياً من وقته للعمل. ويتم الإشراف على هذا الموظف من خلال طبيب أو ممرض في المستوصف الصحي، ويتم تنفيذ الزيارات المنزلية في المنطقة المغطاة من خلال الوحدة الصحية الأساسية. بهذه الطريقة يحصل الموظف على المعلومات التي تُفيّم المشاكل الصحية الرئيسية في تجمعه السكاني.ومن خلال مقترح وزارة الصحة البرازيلية في العام 1994، عندما أنشأت البرنامج القومي صحة العائلة، والمسمى ، أصبح بمقدور عمال الصحة المجتمعية التواجد في موضعين مختلفين فيما يتعلق بنظام الرعاية الصحية :
* على صلة بإحدى الوحدات الصحية الأساسية غير المرتبطة ببرنامج صحة العائلة.
* على صلة بصحة عائلة أساسية كعضو في فريق الأجنحة الطبية. ويوجد حالياً (أكتوبر 2009) أكثر من 260 ألف موظف صحة مجتمعية يتواجدون في المناطق الريفية والمناطق شبه الحضرية في البلديات الصغيرة إضافة إلى المدن الصناعية والمتحضرة بدرجة عالية. (ar)
- Community health agent (agente comunitário de saúde or ACS, in Portuguese language) is the title of a specific lay health care worker developed in Brazil by way of PACS (Program of Community Health Workers) in 1991 as part of the construction of the Brazilian Unified Health System established by Constitutional rule in 1988. The agent, which was said to be inspired on the barefoot doctors program in China, is not certified to practice medicine or nursing, but has the primary task of gathering information on the health status of a small community by means of a close relationship with it. In the initial design, the agent should be one of the residents of a street, neighborhood or surrounding region, and was to be selected on the basis of a good relationship with his neighbors, in addition to the ability to devote eight hours a day to the work. Every agent is supervised by a doctor or nurse of the health clinic, and home visits are conducted in the coverage area of a basic health unit, thus producing information that can assess the main health problems of his community. With the proposition of the Brazilian Ministry of Health in 1994, when it created the a nationwide family health program, called PSF -- Programa de Saúde da Família—health community workers can be found in two different situations in relation to the health care system:
* Linked to a basic health unit not yet attached to the Family Health Program;
* Connected to a basic family health as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Currently (October 2009), there are more than 260,000 community health agents present both in rural and peri-urban areas of small municipalities as well as in highly urbanized and industrialized cities. (en)

Nos municípios onde há somente o PACS, este pode ser considerado um programa de transição para a Saúde da Família. No PACS, as ações dos agentes comunitários de saúde são acompanhadas e orientadas por um enfermeiro/supervisor lotado em uma unidade básica de saúde que possui as principais especialidades médicas (pediatria, clínica médica e ginecologia-obstetrícia) e demanda espontânea e/ou encaminhada por unidades elementares de saúde.
