- The coat of arms of Connacht displays a dimidiated (divided in half from top to bottom) eagle and armed hand. The arms are recorded as such on a map of Galway dated 1651, now in the library of Trinity College, Dublin. These arms approximate rather closely to those of the Schottenkloster or Irish monastery founded in Regensburg, Bavaria in the 11th century. The arms of Connacht is blazoned Party Per Pale Argent and Azure, in the first an eagle dimidiated and displayed Sable in the second issuant from the partition an arm embowed and vested, the hand holding a sword erect, all Argent These are believed to have been adopted from the arms of the medieval Schottenklöster (Gaelic monastery) in Regensburg, Germany. The arms of the Regensburg Schottenklöster, which date from at least the 14th century, combined the arms of the Holy Roman Emperor (from whom the abbey received protection) dimidiated with a symbol that may be linked with the crest of the O'Brien dynasty arms (an 11th-century O'Brien is listed as the "fundator" of the abbey). The arms may have been granted to Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair, King of Connacht and the last High King of Ireland before the Norman invasion, by the abbey as a gift to return his patronage. The arms were given as the "old tyme arms" of Ireland by the Athlone Pursuivant, Edward Fletcher, c. 1575 and, with slight change of tinctures, became the arms of Connacht in the seventeenth century. - La bandiera del Connacht è il vessillo dell'omonima provincia irlandese. Risulta essere un simbolo di araldica e consiste nella fusione di due stemmi del Connacht: un'aquila, nella metà sinistra e un braccio impugnante una spada nella metà destra. Il documento più antico concernente questi simboli è una mappa di Galway datata 1651 e conservata alla biblioteca del Trinity College. Questi stemmi sono associabili, per somiglianza, a quelli del monastero irlandese di Ratisbona, Baviera, risalenti all'XI secolo. Risulta tuttavia poco chiaro come questi simboli, collocati nel cuore del Sacro Romano Impero, siano associabili alla provincia irlandese. Una possibile, seppure debole risposta alla questione può essere rinvenuta nel museo vaticano che contiene un necrologio degli ecclesiastici e potenti irlandesi, le cui morti sono state registrate col luogo del trapasso e con una serie di riferimenti di amicizia verso personalità di spicco nel resto dell'Europa. Ebbene nella sezione "KINGS" della summenzionata necrologia si fa riferimento a Donnchadh e Domhnall MacCarthy, dominatori del Desmond, cui furono concessi gli stemmi di Schottenkloster (Baviera), come attestati di amicizia. Se questa donazione avvenne anche ad altri benefattori menzionati nel necrologio, da parte della casata bavarese, inizia ad emergere il collegamento col Connacht. Infatti l'ultima voce si riferisce a Ruaidhri O Conchobhair, re del Connacht, che negli anni di declino spese molto tempo nel monastero di Cong, che aveva relazioni con molte istituzioni monastiche della Germania imperiale.
