- A city of district significance (Ukrainian: місто районного значення, misto raionnoho znachennia) is a special category of city municipalities within each of the rural raions (districts) of Ukraine's first-level of administrative divisions. These cities are subordinate to the raion authorities and derive their powers from them. The KOATUU national classification system refers to them as the third-level of the country's administrative divisions. As of 2015 there are 276 cities of district significance in Ukraine. Cities of district significance are automatically considered as "small cities", a status which is recognized by a few normative acts of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament. Ukrainian law designates these populated places with populations of up to 50,000. In 2008, the average population of a city of district significance was 13,400. Small cities can belong to one of several specific economic categories, often having a regional transportation significance, important local industry, or an important historical and tourist attraction. As of 2015, 63 of the 276 cities of district significance are members of the Association of Small Cities of Ukraine, a public organization that was registered in 2011 to recognize the common issues of small cities in general and to further promote their development. - En Ucrania hasta 2020, una ciudad de importancia distrital (en ucraniano, місто районного значення, misto raionnoho znachennia) era un tipo de subdivisión administrativa que designaba un gobierno local que, pese a tener carácter urbano (con estatus de ciudad), estaba subordinado a un raión o distrito rural, constituyendo una subdivisión administrativa de tercer nivel, subordinada a una óblast (primer nivel) y a un raión (segundo nivel). Esto las diferenciaba de las ciudades de importancia regional (ciudades que no pertenecían a ningún raión). Tras la reforma territorial de 2020 que ha creado los nuevos municipios de Ucrania, el término ha quedado obsoleto, ya que las ciudades de importancia regional han desaparecido, al integrarse todas ellas en los nuevos raiones o distritos. - Місто районного значення (місто районного підпорядкування) — адміністративно-територіальна одиниця в Україні. До категорії міст районного значення віднесено міста з кількістю населення менше 50 тисяч осіб, які не мають статусу міст обласного значення. До категорії міст районного підпорядкування можуть бути віднесені селища, які мають промислові підприємства, комунальне господарство, державний житловий фонд, мережу соціально-культурних закладів і підприємств побуту, з кількістю населення понад 10 тисяч чоловік, з яких не менш як дві третини становлять робітники, службовці та члени їх сімей. Станом на 1 січня 2008 року таких міст нараховувалось 279, у них проживало 3 млн. 763 тис. осіб наявного населення, що становило 8,1 % загальної чисельності населення України та 11,9 % міського населення.
