| - Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, that gained popularity in the late 1970s. The band consists of Robin Zander (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar, backing vocals), Tom Petersson (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Bun E. Carlos (drums, percussion).
Cheap Trick created a substantial fan base through a hard-edged yet melodic pop sound that combines the tunefulness of The Beatles with the speed and energy of punk rock. Their biggest hits to date include "Surrender", "I Want You to Want Me", "Dream Police", "Voices", "Stop This Game", "If You Want My Love", "Don't Be Cruel" (a cover of Elvis Presley's hit), "Ghost Town", and "The Flame." Cheap Trick also performed the theme song "In The Street" for That '70s Show from the second season onward and the theme song "Baby Muggles" for the Colbert Report.
Cheap Trick continues to tour with the original lineup, and their most recent release, Rockford, has gained critical acclaim. They were honored in October 2007 by the Chicago Chapter of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) for their contributions to the music industry, including 20 million records sold, 29 movie soundtracks, and 40 gold and platinum recording awards. Lograron el éxito en Japón antes que en su país natal, llenando el Estadio Budokan y grabando un disco en vivo "Live at the Budokan" el cual registro altísimas ventas, por lo cual empezaron a ser reconocidos en la Union Americana.
Sus canciones más conocidas son "I want you to want me", "Dream police", y el cuasi himno generacional de los adolescentes W.A.S.P. de los suburbios de clase media: "Surrender" (una exploración pop a los problemas típicos de los jovenes).
Aparentemente su estilo era inocuo (una mezcla de Hard Rock y Power Pop) pero lograron influenciar a toda una generación de nuevas bandas que los mencionan siempre como una fuerte inspiración en su formación musical: Weezer, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins y Fountains of Wayne entre otros.
La clave de esto se haya especialmente en sus 3 primeros discos, cuyas letras están llenas de un sentido del humor gamberro y ligeramente surrealista y una actitud que mezcla el inconformismo y la nostalgia adolescente a partes iguales. Son frecuentes las alusiones al sexo, al travestismo, al suicido, a la religión, la guerra y la prostitución, pero siempre en clave de humor.

Był z pewnością pierwszym zespołem grającym pop-punk. Muzyka tej formacji zyskała szczególną sławę w Japonii.
