- The Charlottenburg Canal, or Charlottenburger Verbindungskanal in German, is a canal in Berlin, Germany. With a former length of 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi), the canal was built between 1848 and 1859, and originally connected the River Spree, in Charlottenburg, with the Berlin-Spandau Ship Canal. The route of canal was north from the River Spree until it passed under the railway bridge carrying the Ringbahn, at which point it turned east along an alignment slightly to the south of that of the more recent Westhafen Canal. After the completion of the latter in 1956, the north–south aligned section of the Charlottenburg Canal was extended to form a right-angled junction with the Westhafen Canal, and the west to east aligned section was closed and filled in. The or Berlin Wholesale Market now covers the site of this section. The remaining 1.7-kilometre (1.1 mi) long canal still links the Westhafen Canal with the River Spree and the Landwehr Canal. It has no locks. The waterways crossroad at the southern end of the Charlottenburg Canal, where it meets both the River Spree and the Landwehr Canal, is known as Spreekreuz. Adjoining the canal near Spreekreuz is a police station of the Berlin Wasserschutzpolizei (water police). (en)

Le canal, qui avait une longueur initiale de 3,2 km, a été construit entre 1848 et 1859 pour relier la Spree, dans le quartier de Charlottenbourg, au canal navigable Berlin-Spandau. Le canal commençait au nord de la Spree, avant d’être enjambé par le pont de chemin de fer transportant le Ringbahn et de tourner ensuite vers l'est suivant un tracé légèrement plus au sud que celui de l'actuel canal de Westhafen. En effet, après l'achèvement de ce dernier en 1956, la section nord-sud du canal de Charlottenbourg a été étendue pour former une jonction perpendiculaire avec le canal de Westhafen, tandis que la section ouest-est a été fermée et comblée. Le marché de gros de Berlin (Berliner Großmarkt) occupe désormais le site de cette section. Le 1,7 km restant relie de nos jours le canal Westhafen avec la Spree et le canal de Landwehr. Il ne possède pas d'écluses. Le carrefour des voies navigables, à l'extrémité sud du canal de Charlottenbourg, où il croise à la fois à la Spree et le canal Landwehr, est connu sous le nom de Spreekreuz. Au bord du canal, près de Spreekreuz, se trouve un poste de la police fluviale de Berlin (Wasserschutzpolizei). (fr)
