- Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists are a class of drugs that act as antagonists of the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor (CGRPR). Several monoclonal antibodies which binds to the CGRP receptor or peptide have been approved for prevention of migraine. Three small molecule CGRPR antagonists are approved in the U.S. as antimigraine agents. Drugs of this class have also been investigated for use in osteoarthritis. (en)
- Inhibitoren im Calcitonin-Gene-Related-Peptide-Signalweg sind Wirkstoffe, welche die Wirkung des Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) hemmen. Sie heben die blutgefäßerweiternden Eigenschaften des CGRP auf. Ihr Einsatz in der Akuttherapie oder Prophylaxe der Migräne basiert auf der Beobachtung, dass das Neuropeptid CGRP eine wichtige Rolle an der während einer Migräneattacke pathologischen Erweiterung der meningealen Blutgefäße spielt. Diese Erkenntnis führte zur Entwicklung zweier Wirkstoffgruppen: Antikörper, die gegen das CGRP oder gegen den CGRP-Rezeptor wirken und die niedermolekularen CGRP-Rezeptorantagonisten. (de)
