Encara que els seus orígens siguin desconeguts, se sap que el poderós majordom del Palau Erquinoald era cosí del jove rei Dagobert I per la seva mare, el que faria de Bertruda una germana de santa Gerberga i una filla dels nobles i Gertruda d'Hamage (santa Gertrudis). S'ignora tanmateix la filiació materna dels fills del rei Clotari II, els prínceps Dagobert I i Caribert II, ja que se li coneixen tres esposes diferents (Haldetrudis, Bertetrudis i Sichildis). La crònica del pseudofrédégaire la mostra com a particularment estimada del seu marit i molt honorada pels francs. Precisa d'altra banda que la reina va desbaratar un complot que preveia l'assassinat del rei Clotari i les seves segones núpcies amb l'usurpador regicida, el patrici d'origen reial burgundi anomenat Aleteu. Va morir el trenta-cinquè any del regnat de Clotari II, el que suposa el 618 o 619. Bertrude també podria ser la mare dels dos altres fills coneguts de Clotari II, el príncep Meroveu (capturat el 604 pels exèrcits austrasians), i un noi mort jove cap a 617 (mencionat per la Vita Rusticulae). - Bertrude, Countess of Vermandois (c. 582–618 or 619) was a Countess of Vermandois and a Frankish queen consort from 613 to 618. She was married to Chlothar II. Her origins are uncertain and unconfirmed; however, it is known that the Mayor of the Palace Erchinoald was King Dagobert I’s cousin through his mother, making her the sister of Saint Gerberge and, therefore, a daughter of Richomer and Saint Gertrude of Hamage. Because Chlothar had three wives (Haldetrude, Bertrude, and Sichilde) and it is not known which was mother of his sons Dagobert I and Charibert II, it is not clear this daughter of Richomer was Bertrude. It is also possible Bertrude was a daughter of . According to the Chronique du Pseudo-Frédégaire, Bertrude loved Chlothar sincerely. She was also described as a popular queen. She is reported to have exposed and prevented an attempted plot by the Burgundian Aletheus, who planned to kill Chlothar and force Bertrude to marry him. Bertrude died during the 35th year of Chlothar II’s reign, in either 618 or 619. Their daughter was called Bertha. (en)

On ignore cependant la filiation maternelle des fils du roi Clotaire II, les princes Dagobert Ier et Caribert II, puisqu'on lui connaît trois épouses différentes (Haldetrudis, Bertetrudis et Sichildis). La Chronique du Pseudo-Frédégaire la prétend particulièrement aimée de son mari et très honorée par les Francs. Elle précise par ailleurs que la reine déjoua un complot qui prévoyait l'assassinat du roi Clotaire et son remariage avec l'usurpateur régicide, le patrice d'origine royale burgonde nommé Aletheus. Elle mourut la trente-cinquième année du règne de Clotaire II, ce qui tombe en 618 ou 619. Bertrude pourrait aussi être la mère des deux autres fils connus de Clotaire II, le prince Mérovée (capturé en 604 par les armées austrasiennes), et un garçon mort jeune vers 617 (mentionné par la Vita Rusticulae). La cosiddetta Cronaca di Fredegario la descrive particolarmente amata dal marito e assai onorata dal popolo; precisa tra l'altro che la regina sventò un complotto che prevedeva l'assassinio di re Clotario e le sue seconde nozze con l'usurpatore regicida, un patrizio di origine reale chiamato Aletheus. Według niektórych jej ród wywodził się od dawnych królów Burgundów. Jej krewnym był majordom Neustrii Erchinoald. Bertetruda była przez ludność królestwa umiłowaną królową. W roku 613 lub 614 zapobiegła spiskowi mającemu obalenie jej męża. Możny burgundzki Alethius i biskup Sion Leudemund zamordowali ustanowionego przez Chlotara księcia Herpo. Następnie mieli zamiar przejąć skarb królewski i zamordować Chlotara. Alethius możliwe, iż spokrewniony z Bertetrudą miał ją poślubić i ogłosić się królem. Bertetruda o wszystkim poinformowała męża.
