- The American Unitarian Association (AUA) was a religious denomination in the United States and Canada, formed by associated Unitarian congregations in 1825. In 1961, it consolidated with the Universalist Church of America to form the Unitarian Universalist Association. The AUA was formed in 1825 in the aftermath of a split within New England's Congregational churches between those congregations that embraced Unitarian doctrines and those that maintained Calvinist theology. According to Mortimer Rowe, the Secretary (i.e. chief executive) of the British Unitarians for 20 years, the AUA was founded on the same day as the British and Foreign Unitarian Association: "By a happy coincidence, in those days of slow posts, no transatlantic telegraph, telephone or wireless, our American cousins, in complete ignorance as to the details of what was afoot, though moving towards a similar goal, founded the American Unitarian Association on precisely the same day—May 26, 1825." - Asociación Unitaria Americana (AUA) es como se denomina a una agrupación religiosa liberal norteamérica de origen protestante que existió entre 1825 y 1961. La AUA fue fundada en Boston como una asociación de ministros y laicos de confesión unitarista, es decir, que rechazaban la Trinidad como ajena al texto de la revelación bíblica y a la razón humana. Desde finales del siglo XVIII y especialmente durante los primeros años del siglo XIX, se había producido un progresivo distanciamiento en las Iglesias congregacionalistas (puritanas) de Nueva Inglaterra, debido a la creciente presencia de ideas arrianas y deístas entre sus ministros más liberales e ilustrados. Con el paso del tiempo, la AUA dejó de ser una asociación de individuos para convertirse en una asociación de congregaciones que se identificaban con la teología unitarista de sus fundadores. La Asociación Unitaria Americana desapareció como tal en 1961 al fusionarse con la Iglesia Universalista de América para formar la actual Asociación Unitaria Universalista. (es)

- American Unitarian Association (AUA) var ett unitariskt trossamfund i Nordamerika, bildat 1825. 1961 gick man samman med (UCA) och bildade Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Under årens lopp växte ett missnöje fram bland unitarer inom UUA som tyckte att universalisterna fått för stort utrymme inom det nya samfundet. 1981 höll Carl Scovel en predikan, i Unitarian Church of All Souls i New York, med rubriken "Vad gör en god kristen som du i detta samfund?"Scovel och hans anhängare hävdade att UUA lämnat sina kristna rötter och utvecklats till en humanistisk, rationalistisk och politiserad rörelse. År 2000 beslutade dessa att återbilda AUA på dess ursprungliga trosgrundlag. Men UUA hävdade sin äganderätt till namnet AUA och stämde utbrytarna inför domstol. Scovel och hans anhängare valde då att istället anta namnet (AUC). (sv)
