- Το σχεδόν σκάκι (Almost Chess) είναι παραλλαγή στο σκάκι που εφηύρε ο Ραλφ Μπέτζα το 1977. Το παιχνίδι παίζεται χρησιμοποιώντας κανονική σκακιέρα και κομμάτια, εκτός από τις βασίλισσες των παικτών που αντικαθίστανται από καγκελάριους, οι οποίοι συνδυάζουν τις κινήσεις του πύργου και του ίππου. Το σχεδόν σκάκι παρουσιάστηκε στο περιοδικό Nost-Algia (αρχίζοντας από τον αρ. 205) της λέσχης NOST (αρχικά του kNights Of the Square Table, «Ιππότες της τετράγωνης τραπέζης»), η οποία δεν είναι πλέον ενεργή, δημιουργήθηκε όμως το 1960 με αρκετές εκατοντάδες ενεργά μέλη που έπαιζαν σκάκι δι' αλληλογραφίας.
