  • The 2022 season is the Washington Commanders' 91st in the National Football League (NFL) and their third under head coach Ron Rivera. This is the team's first season under the Commanders branding, with new logos and uniforms being introduced after temporarily playing as the Washington Football Team for the previous two seasons following the retirement of the Redskins branding in 2020. The team traded for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz during the offseason. However, after going 2–4 under Wentz, he would be placed on injured reserve due to a finger injury after a Week 6 win over the Chicago Bears. They have since gone 5–1–1 with Taylor Heinicke returning to the starting role as well as a strong defense and running game, having improved upon their 7–10 record from the previous season after a Week 13 tie against the New York Giants.
