- The 2005 North Rhine-Westphalia state election was held on 22 May 2005 to elect the members of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. The incumbent coalition government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and The Greens led by Minister-President Peer Steinbrück was defeated. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) became the largest party and formed a coalition with the Free Democratic Party (FDP). CDU leader Jürgen Rüttgers was subsequently elected Minister-President. This marked the first period of non-SPD government in the state since 1966. (en)

Resultó en una victoria de la Unión Demócrata Cristiana de Alemania (CDU), que recibió suficientes escaños para formar una coalición con su socio preferido, el Partido Democrático Liberal (FDP), y poner fin al anterior gobierno formado por el Partido Socialdemócrata (SPD) y Los Verdes, partidos que también gobernaban en aquel momento a nivel federal. - Les élections régionales de 2005 en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie (en allemand : Landtagswahl in Nordrhein-Westfalen 2005) se tiennent le 22 mai 2005, afin d'élire les 181 députés de la 14e législature du Landtag pour un mandat de cinq ans. Du fait de la loi électorale, 187 députés sont finalement élus. Le scrutin est marqué par la victoire de la CDU à la majorité relative, une première depuis 1975. Jürgen Rüttgers est investi ministre-président à la tête d'une « coalition noire-jaune », renvoyant le SPD dans l'opposition après 38 ans et demi au pouvoir. * Socjaldemokratyczna Partia Niemiec (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands) 37,11%, 74 mandaty
* Sojusz 90/Zieloni (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) 6,18%, 12 mandatów
* Wolna Partia Demokratyczna (Freie Demokratische Partei) 6,17%, 12 mandatów do parlamentu nie weszły:

CDU nie rządziła krajem związkowym od 1966 r. – jest to dowód na to, jak bardzo niepopularny w kraju był rząd kanclerza Gerharda Schrödera. Z ramienia CDU ministrami-prezydentami Nadrenii Północnej – Westfalii (NRW) byli Karl Arnold w latach 1947-1956 i 1958-1966. (pl)
