- The 1989 European Curling Championships were held from December 5 to 9 at the arena in Engelberg, Switzerland. The Scottish men's team won their fifth title and the West German women's team won their fourth title. The event was televised on Eurosport. (en)

- Mistrzostwa Europy w Curlingu 1989 odbyły się między 5 a 9 grudnia 1989 w szwajcarskim Engelbergu, w Sportzentrum Erlen. W rywalizacji udział wzięło 27 drużyn (13 kobiecych i 14 męskich). Do uczestnictwa powróciła żeńska reprezentacja Walii. Tak jak wcześniejsze edycje turniej został rozegrany metodą Tripple-Double-Single knock-out. Tytułów mistrzowskich z 1988 broniły Szwedki i Szkoci. Złote medale wywalczyły Niemki (Andrea Schöpp), w finale zakończonym wynikiem 4:2 pokonały Szwajcarki. Na najniższym stopniu podium stanęły Szwedki (Anette Norberg), które w meczu o 3. miejsce zwyciężyły 8:5 nad Dunkami (Helena Blach). Tytuły mistrzowskie w innym składzie obroniła drużyna szkocka, w finale Szkoci byli lepsi 5:4 od Norwegii (Eigil Ramsfjell). Brązowe medale wywalczyli Niemcy pokonując 5:4 ekipę z Francji. Triumfatorzy - Niemki i Szkoci nie odnieśli w całym turnieju żadnej porażki, wygrali oni odpowiednio 7 i 6 meczów. (pl)
