- The 1982 Philadelphia Eagles season was the franchise's 50th season in the National Football League (NFL). The Eagles failed to improve on their 10–6 record from 1981, and finished only 3–6 (a players' strike reduced the season to 9 games). The Eagles failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1977. This season would mark the end of an era under head coach Dick Vermeil. While under Vermeil the Eagles had the most successful period of their existence up to that time, making the playoffs four straight seasons (1978–1981) and having a record of 54–47 in six seasons with Vermeil (1976–1982) while making the Super Bowl in 1980. Vermeil retired after the 1982 season citing burnout, but would return to coaching in 1997 with the St. Louis Rams and would lead them to a Super Bowl victory in 1999. (en)
