- Die Naval Aircraft Factory PN war ein Doppeldecker-Flugboot und wurde ab 1922 für die US Navy gebaut. Sie diente als Aufklärungsflugzeug und zur U-Boot-Bekämpfung. Kurz vor dem Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges begann man bei der mit dem Nachbau von britischen Felixstowe F.5-Flugbooten. Diese erhielten neue 330-PS-Liberty-Motoren. Die US Navy bezeichnete diese als Typ F.5L. Insgesamt wurden 137 F.5L gebaut. Ab 1922 wurden die Maschinen als PN-5 bezeichnet. Die Maschinen blieben bis 1931 im Dienst. Nach der PN-5 folgten noch rund zehn modifizierte Maschinen, die PN-6 – P-12, deren berühmtester Vertreter die PN-9 war. Sie sollte den ersten Nonstop-Flug nach Hawaii versuchen. (de)
