- Ase o ashe (de Yoruba àṣẹ) és un concepte filosòfic de l'Àfrica occidental a través del qual els iorubes de Nigeria conceben el poder de fer que les coses passin i de produir canvis. És atorgat per Olodumare a totes les coses (déus, ancestres, esperits, éssers humans, animals, plantes, roques, rius i paraules pronunciades en veu alta com cançons, pregaries, elogis, malediccions o, fins i tot, a la conversa quotidiana. La pròpia existència, segons el pensament ioruba, depèn d'ell. A més de les seves característiques sagrades, l'ase també té ramificacions socials importants, reflectides en les seves traduccions com "poder, autoritat, ordre". Una persona que, a través de l'entrenament, experiència i iniciació, aprèn a usar la força vital de les coses a voluntat és anomenada alaase. Els rituals per invocar les forces divines reflecteixen aquesta mateixa preocupació per l'ase autònom de les entitats particulars. El reconeixement de la unicitat i autonomia de l'ase de les persones i déus és el que estructura la societat i la seva relació amb l'altre món. (ca)
- Ase or ashe (from Yoruba àṣẹ) is a philosophical concept defined by the Yoruba of Nigeria to represent the power that makes things happen and produces change in the Yoruba religion. It is believed to be given by Olodumare to everything — gods, ancestors, spirits, humans, animals, plants, rocks, rivers, and voiced words such as songs, prayers, praises, curses, or even everyday conversation. Existence, according to Yoruba thought, is dependent upon it. In addition to its sacred characteristics, ase also has important social ramifications, reflected in its translation as "power, authority, command." A person who, through training, experience, and initiation, learns how to use the essential life force of things to willfully effect change is called an alaase. Rituals to invoke divine forces reflect this same concern for the autonomous ase of particular entities. The recognition of the uniqueness and autonomy of the ase of persons and gods is what structures society and its relationship with the other-world. (en)

Ashé nimmt im Laufe der Zeit trotz eines „guten Charakters“ (ìwa pèlé) ab und muss durch religiöse Rituale (auch Tieropfer) aufgeladen werden.
