The Cádiz expedition of 1625 was a naval expedition against Spain by English and Dutch forces.The plan was put forward because after the Dissolution of the Parliament of 1625, the Duke of Buckingham, Lord High Admiral, wanted to undertake an expedition that would match the exploits of the raiders of the Elizabethan era and in doing so, would return respect to the country and its people after the political stress of the preceding years. El fallido ataque a Cádiz de 1625 supuso para Inglaterra graves pérdidas en dinero y prestigio, y fue el único gran enfrentamiento de la Guerra anglo-española (1625-1630). De Aanval op Cádiz van 1625 was een militaire aanval van de Engelse vloot, aangevuld met Nederlandse schepen, met als doel het overvallen van schepen van de Spaanse zilvervloot en het aanvallen van Spaanse kustplaatsen. Aanleiding voor de aanval was dat na het vallen van het Engelse Parlement in 1625, de hoogste Admiraal, George Villiers, Graaf van Buckingham, een expeditie wilde ondernemen die de evenknie zou zijn van helden uit het tijdperk van Elizabeth I. Zo zou de Engelse natie en haar volk opnieuw respect verdienen, na jaren van politieke onrust in het land.

Entre los días 1 y 7 de noviembre de 1625, la flota al mando de Sir Edward Cecil atacó la ciudad española de Cádiz con 10 000 hombres. La escasa preparación de las fuerzas inglesas, la mala organización de la expedición y la sucesión de errores estratégicos de sus mandos supusieron el fracaso total de la misión. Fernando Girón, gobernador de Cádiz, junto con el duque de Medina Sidonia, consiguieron rechazar el ataque, que se saldó con la muerte de aproximadamente 1000 atacantes y la pérdida de 30 naves anglo-holandesas. El fallido ataque a Cádiz de 1625 supuso para Inglaterra graves pérdidas en dinero y prestigio, y fue el único gran enfrentamiento de la Guerra anglo-española (1625-1630).
