- The House on Mango Street (doslovně Dům na Mango Street, v češtině nebylo vydáno) je román mexicko-americké spisovatelky Sandry Cisneros z roku 1984. Román se skládá z epizodických kapitol a vypráví příběh Esperanzy Corderové, dvanáctileté dívky mexicko-amerického původu, která vyrůstá v hispánské čtvrti Chicaga. Kniha se odehrává v průběhu jednoho roku, kdy Esperanza začíná dospívat a musí už jako mladá žena čelit realitě života v chudé a patriarchálně založené komunitě. Dílo částečně vychází také z života autorky a příběhem se prolínají prvky mexicko-americké kultury i témata jako společenská třída, rasa, sexualita, identita a genderová nerovnost. Kniha The House on Mango Street je považována za moderní klasiku literatury a je předmětem mnoha akademických publikací v oboru chicanských studií a feministické teorie. Prodalo se více než 6 milionů výtisků knihy, byla přeložena do více než 20 jazyků a je součástí povinné četby na mnoha školách napříč USA. Dílo bylo deníkem The New York Times zařazeno na seznam bestsellerů a obdrželo několik významných literárních cen včetně American Book Award od nadace Before Columbus, která oceňuje multikulturní literaturu. román adaptovala na divadelní hru, která byla uvedena v roce 2009 v Chicagu. Original The House on Mango Street) ist ein 1983 erschienener Bildungsroman der mexikanisch-amerikanischen Schriftstellerin Sandra Cisneros, der der sogenannten Chicano-Literatur zugerechnet wird. Er schildert in kurzen Episoden das Heranwachsen von Esperanza Cordero, einer jungen, in Chicago aufwachsenden Latina. Esperanza ist entschlossen, dem materiell armen Leben in ihrem von Chicanos und Puerto Ricanern geprägten Stadtteil zu entkommen, aber gleichzeitig verspricht sie, für die zurückzukommen, die sie dort zurückgelassen hat. Das Haus in der Mango Straße ist in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt worden und zählt heute zum Lesestoff, der regelmäßig in US-amerikanischen Schulklassen behandelt wird. Il se compose de 46 et courts chapitres dans lesquels, à travers la jeune héroïne répondant au nom d'Esperanza Cordero, l'auteure nous raconte son histoire qui tourne autour de cette rue Mango, située dans le ghetto portoricain de Chicago. Ce livre, qui est le premier roman de l'auteure, est considéré comme un classique moderne de la littérature chicana. Vendu à plus de 6 millions d'exemplaires et traduit dans une vingtaine de langues, il est enseigné dans les écoles et les universités américaines.
