- Operation Pyrsos (Greek: Επιχείρηση «Πυρσός», "Torch") was the final campaign launched by the National Army of the internationally recognized Greek government against the communist forces during the Greek Civil War. After the success of the preceding Operation Pyravlos, communist forces in central Greece had been defeated and only the mountain strongholds of Grammos and Vitsi in northwestern Greece remained under their control. Yugoslavian assistance to the communists had come to an end in February 1949 amid the Tito–Stalin split. The National Army launched a diversionary attack on Grammos and their main force at Vitsi. On August 25, following a massive attack by the National Army with aircraft and artillery, the Albanian government of Enver Hoxha cut off its assistance to the Greek communist forces; he did not attempt to disarm the Greek communists on his territory, but threatened to cut off food supplies if they returned to Greece. The operation ended on August 30. The Greek communists formally surrendered in mid-October, ending the Greek Civil War. (en)

Après le succès de l' (en), les forces communistes de la Grèce-Centrale avaient été vaincues et seuls les bastions montagneux de Gramos et (el), en Macédoine-Occidentale, dans le nord-ouest de la Grèce, restent sous leur contrôle. L'aide yougoslave aux communistes avait pris fin en février 1949 lors de la rupture Tito-Staline. L'Armée nationale lance une attaque de diversion sur Gramos et sa force principale à Vítsi. Cinq jours de combats coûtent la perte de 256 hommes à l'armée nationale. 1 182 communistes sont tués au combat et plus de 1 000 blessés sont évacués au-delà de la frontière albanaise. Le 25 août, après une attaque massive de l'armée nationale avec des avions et de l'artillerie, le gouvernement albanais d'Enver Hoxha coupe son aide aux forces communistes grecques et désarme les communistes grecs sur son territoire. L'opération se termine à 10 heures du matin le 30 août. Les communistes grecs se rendent officiellement à la mi-octobre, mettant ainsi fin à la guerre civile grecque. (fr)
