- Der Bombardier JetTrain war ein Projekt von Bombardier Transportation für einen in Nordamerika einsetzbaren Hochgeschwindigkeitszug, der auf dem Acela Express basierte und auf Strecken ohne Fahrdraht hätte eingesetzt werden können. Es wurde als einziges Fahrzeug der Triebkopf gebaut, der über eine Gasturbine als Hauptantrieb verfügt. - The JetTrain was an experimental high-speed passenger train concept created by Bombardier Transportation in an attempt to make European-style high-speed service more financially appealing to passenger railways throughout North America. It was designed to use the same LRC-derived tilting carriages as the Acela Express trains that Bombardier built for Amtrak in the 1990s, which used all-electric locomotives. Unlike the Acela, powered electrically by overhead lines, the JetTrain would have used a combination of a 4,000-horsepower (3.0 MW) gas-turbine engine, a low-power diesel engine, a reduction gearbox, and two alternators to power electric traction motors. This would have allowed it to run at high speeds on non-electrified lines. (en)
- Le JetTrain est un produit expérimental de Bombardier Transport développé pour le marché nord-américain afin de proposer des trains à grande vitesse de style européen financièrement plus attrayant pour un usage sur les voies ferrées nord-américaines déjà existantes. Il utilise la technologie des trains pendulaires LRC utilisé par Via Rail depuis les années 1980, et qu'on retrouve dans une forme plus moderne avec le train Acela, pour les voitures. On remplace cependant la locomotive diesel traditionnelle par une locomotive qui utilise une turbine à gaz PW150 de Pratt & Whitney Canada de 3 750 kW de puissance, ce qui permet d'atteindre une vitesse de pointe de 240 km/h lorsque la signalisation et le rail le permettent. Il progetto è stato sviluppato, con la stessa impostazione degli LRC, con assetto variabile derivato dall'Acela Express (fornito ad Amtrak negli anni novanta) e con locomotiva di tipo analogo. Differente invece la motorizzazione che usa una turbina a gas Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150, di tipo aeronautico da 3 750 kW per la generazione dell'energia elettrica di trazione. La sua velocità è dell'ordine dei 240 km/h (150 mph). (it)
