- A circumscribed halo is a type of halo, an optical phenomenon typically in the form of a more or less oval ring that circumscribes the circular 22° halo centred on the sun or moon. As the sun rises above 70° it essentially covers the 22° halo. Like many other halos, it is slightly reddish on the inner edge, facing the sun or moon, and bluish on the outer edge. The shape of the circumscribed halo is strongly dependent on the distance of the sun or moon above the horizon. Its top and bottom (i.e., the points directly below and above the sun or moon) always lie directly tangential to the 22° halo, but its left and right sides take on different shapes depending on solar (or lunar) elevation. At an elevation between about 35°–50°, the sides form two distinct, downward-drooping "lobes" outside of the 22° halo. As the sun or moon rises higher (between c. 50°–70°), the drooping diminishes towards a more regular oval shape. At an elevation of c. 70° or more, the shape of the circumscribed halo approaches a circle, and as such becomes nearly indistinguishable from the 22° halo, only to be identified by its tendency to show more saturated colors than the latter. When the sun or moon is at an elevation lower than c. 35°, the circumscribed halo breaks up into the upper tangent and lower tangent arcs. (en)

Quando osservata, un alone circoscritto è normalmente di forma ovale e tangenziale all'alone di 22° direttamente sotto e sopra al Sole. Si forma quando il Sole si alza e gli archi tangente superiore e tangente inferiore si estendono uno sull'altro e si chiudono attorno all'alone di 22°. Przy równomiernym rozłożeniu kryształów lodu w atmosferze, halo opisane jest najjaśniejsze na dole i górze, a słabsze z boków. Kształt halo opisanego zależy od wysokości słońca. Im wysokość słońca jest mniejsza tym bardziej boki halo opisanego oddalają się od halo 22°. Gdy wysokość słońca stanowi kąt mniejszy niż 29° do 32°, halo opisane rozdziela się na górny łuk styczny i . Gdy słońce jest powyżej 50° nad horyzontem halo opisane jest bliskie halo 22°, słabe z boków, praktycznie obserwuje się tylko jaśniejsze halo 22° u dołu i góry. Powyżej 70° niemożliwe jest do odróżnienia od halo 22°. Halo opisane powstaje przez załamanie światła w kryształach kolumnowych ułożonych poziomo, przechodząc przez powierzchnie kryształu ustawione do siebie pod kątem 60°, podczas gdy za halo 22° odpowiadają także kryształy nie ułożone poziomo. Na przecięciu halo opisanego i kręgu parhelicznego powstają słońca poboczne. (pl)
- O halo circunscrito é um fenômeno ótico pertencente à família dos halos de gelo. Sua forma depende da altura que o sol se encontra acima do horizonte, mas normalmente se caracteriza por uma oval ao redor do sol e tangente ao halo de 22º nos pontos superior e inferior, estando por fora deste último nos outros pontos. Quando o sol está abaixo dos 29 graus de altura o halo circunscrito se quebra em dois fenômenos separados, chamados Arco Tangente Superior e Arco Tangente Inferior. Contudo, o limite de 29 graus é teórico; estando o sol abaixo dos 35 graus as partes laterais do halo circunscrito são normalmente imperceptíveis e já passa a impressão de ter se transformado nos arcos tangentes. Na foto à direita aparece o halo de 22º (interno) e o halo circunscrito (externo). No ponto superior os dois se somam e essa região aparece mais brilhante (o mesmo ocorrendo para o ponto inferior, não enquadrado na foto). (pt)
