The Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) was a non-departmental public body in the United Kingdom set up under the Transport Act 2000 to provide strategic direction for the railway industry. Its motto was 'Britain's railway, properly delivered'. It was abolished by the Railways (Abolition of the Strategic Rail Authority) Order 2006, its functions being absorbed by the Department for Transport or the Office of Rail Regulation (now the Office of Rail and Road).

Mit dem Inkrafttreten des Railways Act 2005 wurde die SRA aufgelöst und ihre Aufgaben an die Schienenverkehrsabteilung des Verkehrsministeriums übertragen. De organisatie werd in 1996 opgericht, toen de privatisering van de Britse spoorwegen een feit werd. Het passagiers- en goederenverkeer werd overgenomen door een 30-tal private investeerders. De concessies duren meestal enkele jaren, bij een positief advies kunnen daarna concessies voor 10 of 20 jaar worden uitgereikt. De SRA kon de concessie ook intrekken, bij een slecht financieel beleid of wanbeheer. Dit gebeurde bij Connex South Eastern in november 2003. (nl)
