The SS Cevic was a steam ship built by Harland and Wolff for the White Star Line for service initially in the North Atlantic. Later she was transferred to the Australia run. On the outbreak of the First World War she was sold to the Admiralty and converted to a dummy capital ship. Later she was transferred to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. After the war she was sold to the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company.

  • SS Cevic byl parník vybudovaný v loděnicích Harland & Wolff v Belfastu pro společnost White Star Line. Na vodu byl spuštěn 23. září 1893. Měl tonáž 8 301 BRT. Původně byl postaven jako nákladní loď převážející dobytek. Na svou první plavbu z Liverpoolu do New Yorku vyplul 12. ledna 1894. V roce 1914 byl zabaven Royal Navy a přestavěn na napodobeninu bitevního křižníku HMS Queen Mary. Byl to trik, který měl zmást Němce — Cevic se vydával za Queen Mary a Němci si mysleli, že chrání zásobovací lodě. Trik fungoval a jeho přestrojení nikdy nebylo Němci odhaleno. V roce 1916 byl přejmenován na Bayol a přestavěn na tanker. V roce 1917 byl opět přejmenován pod novou společností na Bayleaf.   • Le Cevic est un transporteur de bétail de la White Star Line mis en service en 1894. Construit par les chantiers Harland & Wolff de Belfast, il est alors le plus imposant navire de ce type commandé par la compagnie, et l'un des plus gros cargos au monde : lors d'une de ses premières traversées, il rapporte de New York la plus importante cargaison jamais transportée à l'époque. Le navire arrive également à point nommé pour remplacer le Naronic, disparu l'année précédente. Cependant, le début du XXe siècle voit la disparition progressive du transport de bétail vivant sur l'Atlantique au profit de la viande congelée. Le Cevic, inutile sur l'Atlantique Nord, est transféré sur la ligne de l'Australie. (fr)
