In mathematics, a rate is the ratio between two related quantities in different units. If the denominator of the ratio is expressed as a single unit of one of these quantities, and if it is assumed that this quantity can be changed systematically (i.e., is an independent variable), then the numerator of the ratio expresses the corresponding rate of change in the other (dependent) variable. One common type of rate is "per unit of time", such as speed, heart rate and flux. Ratios that have a non-time denominator include exchange rates, literacy rates, and electric field (in volts/meter).

  • Matematikan, tasa bi magnituderen arteko ratioa edo zatidura da, zatitzailea den magnitudearen unitate bakoitzeko, bestearen unitate-kopurua adierazten duena. Adibidez, pertsona bakoitzak eguneko 300 gr ogi jaten dituela adieraztean, tasa bat kalkulatzen ari da, kontsumitutako ogi guztia pertsona kopuruaren artean zatituz. Maiz, tasak denboraren arabera kalkulatzen dira, hau da, denbora da magnitude zatitzailea, aldi bakoitzeko magnitude baten neurria adierazteko (adibidez, abiadura, kilometroak orduko neurtuz). Tasak magnitude baten aldakuntzaren neurri moduan ere erabiltzen dira, magnitude edo aldagai baten unitate gehigarri bakoitzeko, beste magnitude bat nola aldatzen den aztertzeko alegia (adibidez, lanordu gehigarri batek ekoizpenean dakarren gehikuntza kalkulatzen denean); tasaren a
