KD Hang Tuah is a frigate operated by the Royal Malaysian Navy since 1977. She was built in the United Kingdom, originally for the Ghana Navy, but was launched and completed as a private venture, before being purchased by the Royal Navy in 1972. She served for five years as HMS Mermaid (F76) before being purchased by Malaysia, where she replaced another ex-British frigate also called Hang Tuah. She became a training ship in 1992 and was refitted to replace obsolete weapons and machinery.

Když později Ghana plavidlo odmítla převzít, zůstalo několik let zakotvené v loděnici a následně bylo čtyři roky provozováno jako fregata britského královského námořnictva HMS Mermaid. Fregata Mermaid sloužila na Dálném východě a zapojila se též do tzv. tresčí války s Islandem. Roku 1977 ji zakoupila Malajsie, jejíž námořnictvo ji provozovalo v letech 1977–2018. Elle a été construite au Royaume-Uni, à l'origine pour la marine du Ghana sous le nom de Black Star, mais a été lancée et achevée en tant qu'entreprise privée, avant d'être achetée par la Royal Navy en 1972. Elle a servi pendant cinq ans en tant que HMS Mermaid (F76) avant d'être achetée par la Malaisie, où elle a remplacé une autre ex-frégate britannique également appelée Hang Tuah.
