Irish folklore (Irish: béaloideas) refers to the folktales, balladry, music, dance, and so forth, ultimately, all of folk culture. Irish folklore, when mentioned to many people, conjures up images of banshees, fairies, leprechauns and people gathering around, sharing stories. Many tales and legends were passed from generation to generation, so were the dances and song in the observing of important occasions such as weddings, wakes, birthdays and holidays or, handcraft traditions. All of the above can be considered as a part of folklore, as it is the study and appreciation of how people lived.

  • Is féidir béaloidis a shainiú mar an traidisiúnta creidimh, nósanna, agus scéalta den phobal, a rith trí na glúine de bhriathar béil . Deirtear gur lipéad réasúnta nua-aimseartha é an focal béaloideas a úsáideadh chun cur síos a dhéanamh ar chorp ábhair ag am nuair a bhagair sé go rachadh sé as feidhm . Bíonn traidisiún láidir béaloidis ag neart pobal tuaithe ar fud an domhain, Éire san áireamh. De ghnáth, baineann an béaloideas le heachtraí stairiúla a tharla sa gceantar máguaird, m.sh. bá tragóideach iascairí, nó le heachtraí daoine cáiliúla ón stair, m.sh. Gráinne Mhaol. Caitheamh aimsire a bhíodh sa mbéaloideas roimh ré na litearthachta fairsinge, is minic a insíodh a scéalta timpeall tine tráthnóna nó oíche mar gurbh é an príomhchineál siamsaíochta é fadó. Is fíor a rá na seanscéalta, (ga)
