The song and the singer were internally selected in January 2018 by the Irish broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) to represent the nation at the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal. Ireland was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 8 May 2018.
