Fire investigation, sometimes referred to as origin and cause investigation, is the analysis of fire-related incidents. After firefighters extinguish a fire, an investigation is launched to determine the origin and cause of the fire or explosion. Investigations of such incidents require a systematic approach and knowledge of basic fire science.

- Investigasi pembakaran (bahasa Inggris: arson investigation) adalah sebuah lembaga investigasi yang mengumpulkan fakta dan bukti-bukti yang terjadi di tempat kejadian perkara serta menyimpulkan apakah penyebab terjadinya kebakaran. Untuk menjadi tenaga ahli investigasi arson harus memiliki kemampuan yang mumpuni serta dilatih sesuai dengan kurikulum yang komprehensif. Salah satu materi yang wajib yang wajib dimiliki oleh tenaga ahli adalah materi standar bersertifikat dari akademi kepolisian dan memenuhi beberapa kriteria khusus yang dimiliki untuk mengikuti pelatihan diantaranya adalah untuk masa jabatan petugas pemadam kebakaran selama 5 tahun dan mempunyai gelar sarjana dalam peradilan kriminal atau ilmu kepolisian. Untuk posisi investigasi arson harus benar-benar bagi mereka yang memiliki sertifikat nasional dan pelatihan legal.
