| - Le sport algérien commence réellement pendant la colonisation française. Plusieurs disciplines sont pratiquées et de nombreuses compétitions sont lancées. Lors de l'indépendance, l'Algérie continue à maintenir le cap pour développer plusieurs disciplines sportives comme le football, le volley-ball, le handball, les arts martiaux (taekwondo, judo, karaté, full-contact, etc), l'athlétisme, la natation, le tennis, le cyclisme, la boxe, l'aviron, la voile. - El deporte en Argelia se remonta a la antigüedad. En las montañas Aurès, la gente jugaba juegos como El Kherdba o El khergueba (una variante de ajedrez). Jugar a las cartas, damas y juegos de ajedrez son parte de la cultura. Carreras de caballos y tiro con rifle están entre las tradiciones recreativas de Argelia. Playing cards, checkers and chess games are part of Algerian culture. Horse racing (fantasia) and rifle shooting are among the recreational traditions of Algeria. The first Algerian, Arab, and African gold medalist was Boughera El Ouafi in the marathon at the 1928 Olympics of Amsterdam. The second Algerian medalist was marathon runner Alain Mimoun, who won the marathon at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. (en)
