- Der Wildlife Photographer of the Year ist ein Wettbewerb für Naturfotografie. Er wurde 1965 vom (damals noch Animals) ins Leben gerufen. 1984 schloss sich das Magazin mit dem Natural History Museum zusammen und schufen den Wettbewerb in seiner heutigen Form. Er gilt als einer der renommiertesten Naturfotowettbewerbe. In verschiedenen Kategorien können sich Naturfotografen aus aller Welt bewerben. Zum ersten Wettbewerb 1965 erhielt die Redaktion 361 Einsendungen, 2002 waren es über 18.500 und 2019 waren es über 48.000. 2009 gab es erstmals kein Siegerbild. Dem Fotografen José Luis Rodriguez wurde der ursprünglich verliehene Preis für das Bild eines springenden iberischen Wolfes nachträglich aberkannt, da es einen zahmen Wolf zeigt. (de)

La première compétition a eu lieu en 1964, avec trois catégories et près de 600 participants. En 2008, la compétition comptait plus de 32 000 participations pour 3 100 photographes de 82 pays. Une exposition des gagnants et des récompensés a lieu chaque année au Musée d'histoire naturelle. Cette exposition est montrée dans le monde entier. Elle est souvent citée comme l'une des plus prestigieuses compétitions de photographie du monde. Chaque année depuis 1998, les photographies primées sont également publiées en français dans un livre grand format. Jusqu'en 2015 chez les éditions Dakota, sous le titre Vie Sauvage, coédité avec le magazine Géo et depuis 2016 chez les éditions Biotope en coédition avec le Musée d'histoire naturelle de Londres. - Wildlife Photographer of the Year is an annual international wildlife photography competition staged by the Natural History Museum in London, England. There is an exhibition of the winning and commended images each year at the museum, which later tours around the world. The event has been described as one of the most prestigious photography competitions in the world. It was known as BG Wildlife Photographer of the Year from 1990 to 2003, and briefly as Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Kodak Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Prudential Wildlife Photographer of the Year. The first competition was held in 1964, with three categories and around 600 entries. In 2008 the competition received over 32,000 entries from 3100 photographers in 82 countries. A book of winning entries and runners-up has been published each year since 1992, with two books being published in 1994 (the first three volumes were published the year after the corresponding competitions were held).
