- Das jährliche ausgetragene All-Star-Game der Major League Baseball (MLB), häufig als Midsummer Classic bezeichnet, ist ein Spiel zwischen Auswahlteams der National League (NL) und der American League (AL). Die Spieler werden sowohl von den Fans als auch von den Spielern der MLB und den beiden Team-Managern gewählt. Das Spiel findet Anfang bis Mitte Juli statt und symbolisiert die Mitte der Baseballsaison, die von Anfang April bis Anfang Oktober geht. Das erste All-Star Game fand 1933 anlässlich der Weltausstellung in Chicago im Comiskey Park statt. Anfangs als einmalige Veranstaltung gedacht, wurde es zu einer festen Institution in den USA. Von 2003 bis 2016 verhalf der Sieger im All-Star Game seinem Vertreter in der World Series zu Heimrecht in einem eventuellen Spiel 7. Nun erhält dieses Recht das Finalteam, das in der Regular Season mehr Spiele gewinnen konnte. Am 9. Juli 2019 wurde das bisher letzte All-Star Game im Progressive Field, dem Stadion der Cleveland Indians, in Cleveland ausgetragen. Die Auswahl der American League entschied das Spiel mit 4:3 für sich. Von den bisherigen 91 Spielen gewann die National League 43 und die American League 46 Spiele. Zwei Spiele endeten unentschieden. - The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the "Midsummer Classic", is an annual professional baseball game sanctioned by Major League Baseball (MLB) and contested between the all-stars from the American League (AL) and National League (NL). Starting fielders are selected by fans, pitchers are selected by managers, and reserves are selected by players and managers. The game is usually played on the second or third Tuesday in July, and is meant to mark the symbolic halfway point of the MLB season (though not the mathematical halfway point, which, for most seasons, falls within the previous calendar week). Both leagues share an All-Star break, with no regular-season games scheduled from the day before through two days after the All-Star Game, with the exception of a single Thursday night game starting in the 2018 season. Some additional events and festivities associated with the game take place each year close to and during this break in the regular season. No official MLB All-Star Games were held in 1945 and 2020, and no official selection of players took place, due to World War II travel restrictions and the COVID-19 pandemic, respectively. - De Major League Baseball All-Star Game, ook wel bekend onder de naam "Midsummer Classic" of "Midsummer Night Classic", is een honkbalwedstrijd tussen de beste spelers van de National League en de American League. De wedstrijd vindt meestal plaats midden juli. Het symboliseert het midden van het seizoen van de Major League Baseball. Wiskundig gezien is dit niet het echte midden van het seizoen, maar ongeveer 55%. De eerste All-Star wedstrijd werd gehouden in Chicago, Illinois in het jaar 1933. In 2002 eindigde de wedstrijd voor het eerst in de geschiedenis in een gelijkspel. In de verlenging bleek dat beide teams nog maar 1 werper beschikbaar hadden en er werd besloten dat indien na 11 innings de stand nog steeds gelijk zou zijn, de wedstrijd in een gelijk spel zou eindigen. Om het belang van de wedstrijd te vergroten krijgt sinds 2003 de winnende League het thuisvoordeel in de World Series, de slotwedstrijd van het seizoen waarin de winnaars van beide Leagues om het algehele kampioenschap strijden.
