- En la Irlanda medieval els Reis de Mide eren del , una branca dels . Alguns d'ells arribaren a Gran rei d'Irlanda. Després de la caiguda del regne al segle xii la seva dinastia, el Ua Mael Sechlainn o Ó Melaghlins, foren desplaçats a l'oest i es van establir al marge oriental del riu Shannon. Es van observar alguns portadors del nom entre la noblesa fins a finals de la dècada de 1690, tot i haver perdut tot el poder real que tenien abans. El regne de Mide sí que sembla haver existit com un regne (encara que de diferents mides), almenys des de l'època històrica antiga. El seu nom significa mitjà, que denota el fet que es troba al centre d'Irlanda en el que avui és el Comtat de Westmeath, parts del nord del comtat d'Offaly, el sud del comtat de Longford i la part occidental del comtat de Meath Els seus primers reis podien haver estat els Dál Messin Corb - el sept dels quals, el , eren reis de Leinster. - In medieval Ireland, the Kings of Mide were of the Clann Cholmáin, a branch of the Uí Néill. Several were High Kings of Ireland. After the collapse of the kingdom in the 12th century its dynasty, the Ua Mael Sechlainn or Ó Melaghlins, were forced west and settled on the east bank of the Shannon. Bearers of the name were still noted as among the Gaelic nobility until as late as the 1690s, though they had lost any real power long before. The Kingdom of Mide itself seems to have existed as a kingdom (though of varying sizes) since at least the early historic era. Its name means "middle", denoting the fact that it was situated in the very centre of Ireland in what is now County Westmeath, parts of north County Offaly, south County Longford and western County Meath. Its early kings may have been of the Dál Messin Corb - whose sept, the Uí Garrchon, were Kings of Leinster. However, from the late 400's onwards they were driven away from their original homeland in northern Leinster and over the Wicklow Mountains by the Ui Néill, whose sept, the Clann Cholmáin, took their place. Il regno di Mide sembra essere esistito come regno (con diversa estensione) fino almeno all'inizio dell'età storica. Il suo nome significa mezzo, che denota come fosse situato proprio al centro dell'isola (le contee di Meath Westmeath e parti di quelle di Cavan, Dublino, Kildare, Longford, Louth e Offaly).
