- الاستطباب (بالإنجليزية: indication) أو داعي الاستخدام هو مصطلح طبي يصف المبرر المقبول لإجراء أو لإجراءٍ علاجي سواء أكان دوائياً أو عملية جراحية؛ بمعنى آخر هو السبب المقنع الذي نجري لأجله فحصاً أو علاجاً طبياً. وتعليل ذلك أن الإجراءات الطبية المتعددة سواءً كانت تشخيصية أم علاجية تحمل في طياتها أخطاراً مثل المضاعفات الدوائية، كما أن للإجراءات الطبية تكاليف لابد أن تتناسب مع الفائدة المرجوّة من إجرائها. لذا فإن تبرير الحاجة للإجراءات الطبية أمرٌ مهم؛ لذلك يتم تحديد الاستطبابات من قبل هيئات حكومية مختصة في كل بلد. المفهوم المعاكس للاستطباب هو مضاد استطباب، أو مانع استعمال. Il termine deriva dal latino (del latino indiquer) e indica un consiglio o una raccomandazione, scritto o orale. All'opposto di tale terminologia esistono anche le controindicazioni per le quali l'uso della medicina è sconsigliato. Le indicazioni non soltanto seguono la terapia che la persona deve adottare per la patologia esistente ma possono anche prevenire il risorgere di nuove manifestazioni simili, di ricadute.
