- Aussersihl is a district in the Swiss city of Zürich. Known officially as District number 4, the district is known as colloquially Chreis Cheib, cheib being the Zürich German word for an animal cadaver. It earned the name as the area historically contained pits for the deposition of dead animals. It comprises the quarters Werd, Langstrasse and Hard. (en)
- Aussersihl ist ein Stadtkreis der Stadt Zürich. Die 1787 von Wiedikon losgelöste ehemals selbständige Gemeinde wurde 1893 mit der Stadt vereinigt, wo sie zusammen mit Wiedikon den Kreis III bildete. 1913 wurde Aussersihl ohne das davon abgetrennte Industriequartier der eigenständige Stadtkreis 4, der seit 1971 in die drei Verwaltungseinheiten (Quartiere) Werd, Langstrasse und Hard aufgeteilt wird. Der Name Aussersihl bezieht sich auf die aus Sicht der alten Stadt Zürich auf der anderen Seite der Sihl liegenden Gebiete, die durch die Sihlporte erreichbar waren. Im Volksmund wird der Stadtkreis auch «Chreis Cheib» genannt. Das Wort «Cheib» bezeichnet Tierkadaver, im Kreis 4 gab es einst Gruben für Tierkadaver. (de)
