- Η μέλισσα Apis mellifera macedonica (κοινώς, μακεδονική μέλισσα), είναι ένα υποείδος των μελισσών που διανέμουν στη βορειοανατολική Ελλάδα (Μακεδονία και Θράκη), τη Βουλγαρία, τη Ρουμανία και (ίσως) τμήμα της πρώην ΕΣΣΔ. Αρχικά, το υποείδος αυτό όπως και οι φυλές της Apis mellifera adami, Apis mellifera cecropia και Apis mellifera cypria, περιγράφεται από τον Friedrich Ruttner, με βάση τους μορφολογικούς της χαρακτήρες. Οι πληθυσμοί των μελισσών από τη Θράκη, τη Μακεδονία, την Κεντρική Ελλάδα και την Πελοπόννησο, είναι εντελώς διακριτοί από εκείνους της νήσου Κρήτης. Το 2005 η Δρ. Βιολόγος Μ.Μπουγά μελέτησε τους πληθυσμούς των μελισσών από διάφορες περιοχές της Ελλάδας (Ικαρία, Κάσος, Κύθηρα, Φθιώτιδα), καθώς και από τη Βόρεια Μακεδονία και την Κύπρο). Αναλύοντας τμήματα του μιτοχονδριακού DNA και βρίσκοντας τις διαφορές του με το ένζυμο περιορισμού, κατέληξε ότι οι Apis mellifera adami, Apis mellifera cecropia και Apis mellifera cypria έχουν τον απλότυπο που διαφέρει από τον απλότυπο της Apis mellifera macedonica, κάνοντας αυτό το υποείδος το πιο μακρινό από όλα. - The Macedonian bee (Apis mellifera macedonica or Apis mellifera rodopica) is a subspecies of the Western honey bee. It is found mainly in Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Northern Greece and other places in the Balkans as well. Originally this subspecies was described based on morphological characteristics by Friedrich Ruttner, as were the adami, cecropia and cypria subspecies. The bee populations of Thrace, Macedonia, Central Greece and the Peloponnese are completely distinguishable from those on the island of Crete. Studies of bee populations in 2005 from various areas of Greece (Ikaria, Kasos, Kythira, Phthiotis, Macedonia) and Cyprus analyzing mitochondrial DNA segments and finding differences in enzymatic restrictions, resulting in Apis mellifera adamii, Apis mellifera cecropia and Apis Cypria mellifera have a haplotype which differs from the Macedonian Apis mellifera haplotype, this subspecies being the most distant of all. - La abeja griega del norte (Apis mellifera macedonica) es una subespecie de abeja doméstica distribuida en el noreste de Grecia, Bulgaria, Rumania y (quizá) la parte del anterior URSS. Originalmente esta subespecie fue descrita con base a caracteres morfológicos por Friedrich Ruttner, al igual que las razas Apis mellifera adamii, Apis mellifera cecropia y Apis mellifera cypria. Las poblaciones de abejas de Tracia, Macedonia, Grecia central y el Peloponeso son completamente distinguibles de las de la isla de Creta. Ouga en el 2005, estudia poblaciones de abejas de varias áreas de Grecia (Ikaria, Kasos, Citera, Ftiótide, Macedonia y Chipre) analizando segmentos del ADN mitocondrial y encontrando diferencias de restricciones enzimáticas, resultando que Apis mellifera adamii, Apis mellifera cecropia y Apis mellifera cypria tienen un haplotipo que difiere del haplotipo de Apis mellifera macedonica, siendo esta subespecie la más distante de todas.
