- Die Tour der südafrikanischen Rugby-Union-Nationalmannschaft nach Südamerika 1980 umfasste eine Reihe von Freundschaftsspielen der Springboks, der Nationalmannschaft Südafrikas in der Sportart Rugby Union. - The 1980 South Africa rugby union tour of South America was a series of six matches played by the South Africa national rugby union team (the Springboks) in Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile in October 1980. The South Africa team won all six of their matches including both test matches against the South American Jaguars. The tour was a reciprocal visit for the South American Jaguars tour to South Africa earlier in 1980 and the two test matches were originally scheduled to be played in Argentina. The Argentine government subsequently banned the South Africans from visiting Argentina in protest at the South African government's apartheid policies and the internationals were re-arranged for Uruguay and Chile. The South American side was composed entirely of Argentine players. South Africa's touring party included Errol Tobias, the first non-white player to represent the Springboks. (en)
- Nel 1980, il Sudafrica, per superare il boicottaggio che isolava anche a livello rugbystico il paese, a causa dell'apartheid, si recò in tour in Sudamerica, affrontando tra l'altro l'Irlanda, camuffata da "". Tale scelta, fu dovuto all'adesione al boicotaggio dal governo argentino. Già nel mese di aprile la nazionale argentina, con la sostanzialmente coreografica di giocatori altri paesi, si era recata in Sudafrica in tale veste, senza alcun ufficiale riconoscimento e con i giocatori invitati ognuno a titolo privato. Il tour doveva essere il primo della nazionale sudafricana in Argentina, dopo che sino dagli anni '30 selezioni minori come gli "Junior Springbks", le "Gazelles" (Under 23) e gli "Oribis" (under 21).
