- William Douglas of Douglas († 19. Juli 1333 bei Berwick-upon-Tweed) war ein schottischer Adliger. Er war der älteste Sohn und Erbe des Heerführers Sir James of Douglas. Als sein Vater 1330 in der Schlacht von Teba fiel, erbte er dessen Ländereien und folgte ihm insbesondere als Laird der feudalen Baronie Douglas. Er gehörte dem Heer seines Onkels des Guardian of Scotland Sir Archibald Douglas an, das 1333 zum Entsatz der vom englischen König Eduard III. belagerten Grenzstadt Berwick aufgestellt wurde. In der folgenden Schlacht bei Halidon Hill am 19. Juli 1333 wurde das schottische Heer vernichtend geschlagen, auch William wurde in der Schlacht getötet. Er blieb unverheiratet und kinderlos. Seine Besitzungen fielen an seinen Onkel Hugh Douglas. (de)

On ne connait que peu d'information sur sa vie, après la mort de son père en Espagne en 1330, il demeure sous la tutelle d' Sir Archibald Douglas. Il y a des relevés de transactions qui apparaissent dans les comptes de l'échiquier du Chambellan d'Écosse de 1331 et se réfèrent à Willelmus dominus de Duglas. Ils comprennent également une réclamation émanant des moines du prieuré de Coldingham à David II contre le Seigneur de Douglas et son oncle Sir Archibald, au sujet d'un certain domaine et manoir à dans le Berwickshire. Dans laquelle les moines protestent du fait que le domaine a été donné au père de Lord Douglas, Sir James, illégalement et au préjudice du prieuré de Coldingham. William de Douglas accompagne son oncle qui a été nommé Gardien du Royaume lors de la Bataille de Halidon Hill. Et c'est là qu'avec son oncle, six autres comtes, des chevaliers du comté et leur suivants, il est tué. Il meurt célibataire et encore mineur . Le titre et les privilèges de la seigneurie de Douglas sont transférés à son autre oncle, Hugh the Dull (c'est-à-dire le Terne), un chanoine du chapitre de la cathédrale de Glasgow et pasteur de Roxburgh qui à son tour transmet le patrimoine des Douglas au cousin germain et homonyme de William; William Douglas de Lothian qui sera le 1er comte de Douglas. En 1778, lors de fouilles dans l' Auld Kirk de North Berwick en découvre la matrice du sceau William, seigneur de Douglas.Sur l'empreinte de ce sceau on peut voir la première représentation du cœur de Bruce dans les armoiries des Douglas, et que ce derniersymbole avait été repris immédiatement après la mort de Sir James Douglas. - William, Lord of Douglas (died 19 July 1333) was a short-lived Scottish nobleman, the son of Sir James Douglas and an unknown mother. Little is known of Lord Douglas's life which, after his father's death in Spain in 1330, he spent under the guardianship of Sir Archibald Douglas. There are records of transactions occurring in the exchequer accounts of the Lord Chamberlain of Scotland in 1331 that refer to Willelmus dominus de Duglas. There is also a record of a complaint by the monks of Coldingham Priory to David II against the Lord of Douglas and his uncle Sir Archibald, in respect of certain manorial lands at Swinton, Berwickshire. In this the monks claimed that the lands had been given to Lord Douglas' father, Sir James, illegally and with prejudice against the priory at Coldingham. William of Douglas accompanied his uncle, who had been appointed Guardian of the Realm, to the battlefield of Halidon Hill. There, with his uncle, six belted earls and countless knights and commoners, he was slain. He died unmarried and a minor. The title and privileges of the Lordship of Douglas passed to another uncle, Hugh "the Dull", a Canon of Glasgow and parson of Roxburgh who turned much of the Douglas patrimony over to his cousin William Douglas of Lothian. In 1778, excavations at the Auld Kirk at North Berwick uncovered the matrix of the seal of William, Lord Douglas. This seal stamp shows the first representation of the heart of Bruce in Douglas heraldry, and shows that it was assumed immediately after the death of Sir James Douglas. (en)
