Il décrit comment un complot chargé de détruire le christianisme en réfutant la résurrection du Christ, conduit à une confusion morale et au chaos dans le monde, jusqu'à sa dénonciation. Le titre est une subtile référence au verset 20:1 de l'Évangile selon Jean : « Le premier jour de la semaine, Marie de Magdala se rendit au sépulcre dès le matin, comme il faisait encore obscur ; et elle vit que la pierre était ôtée du sépulcre », qui décrit la constatation de Marie de Magdala de l'absence du corps du Christ dans le sépulcre. The title is a reference to the bible verse John 20:1, "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre." (King James Bible), which describes the account of Mary Magdalene witnessing the absence of Christ's body in the sepulchre. Although commercially successful, it has been criticized as being anti-Semitic. (en)
