- Der Vermont Attorney General ist eines von fünf auf Kabinettsebene angesiedelten Verfassungsämtern des Bundesstaates von Vermont. Er wird für zwei Jahre gewählt. Das Amt wurde gebildet durch ein Verfassungsakt der Vermont General Assembly im Jahr 1790, aufgehoben im Jahr 1797 sowie wiederbelebt im Jahr 1904. Es begann als Ein-Mann-Büro in Windsor, der ersten Hauptstadt des Bundesstaates. Als die Funktion im Jahr 1904 wiederbelebt wurde, wurde das Büro im Vermont State House untergebracht. Heute befindet sich das Büro im und ist der größte Arbeitgeber für Anwälte im Bundesstaat. Der seit 1997 amtierende Vermont Attorney General ist William Sorrell. Das Büro bietet Rechtsberatung für alle staatlichen Behörden und die Vermont General Assembly, die Legislative des Staates. Es behandelt Zivil- und Strafsachen an allen Gerichten des Staates sowohl für die erste, als auch für die zweite Instanz. - The Vermont Attorney General is a statewide elected executive official in the U.S. state of Vermont who is elected every two years. It was created by an act of the Vermont General Assembly in 1790, repealed in 1797, and revived in 1904. The office began as a one-person operation located at Windsor, Vermont, the state's first capital. When the position was recreated in 1904 offices were located in the Vermont State House. The office is now headquartered in the Pavilion and is the largest employer of attorneys in the state. As of July 5, 2022 Susanne R. Young of Northfield is the Vermont Attorney General, having been appointed by Governor Phil Scott to fill the vacancy created when T. J. Donovan resigned. The office provides legal counsel for all state agencies and the Vermont General Assembly, the state's legislative branch. It handles civil and criminal cases in all courts of the state for both the trial and appellate levels. It defends the state when it is sued and files suits to enforce Vermont’s criminal, environmental, consumer protection, civil rights and other laws. (en)
