- Velislavova bible je ojedinělá obrazová bible, která byla vytvořena v letech 1325 až 1349. Soubor perokreseb jemně kolorovaných základními barvami vznikl zřejmě na objednávku Velislava, zcestovalého notáře v kanceláři českého krále Karla IV., a je doprovázen stručným textem. Velislavova bible patří k nejrozsáhlejším obrazovým knihám středověku, neboť i po ztrátě několika listů obsahuje 747 ilustrací, které zobrazují začátek Starého zákona, část evangelií a Skutků apoštolských, celou Apokalypsu a také Legendu o sv. Václavovi. V roce 2007 vydalo nakladatelství Archa 90 v nákladu 799 výtisků faksimili Velislavovy bible, v roce 2008 pak v 69 výtiscích faksimili na ručním papíře, maximálně napodobující původní knihu, za prodejní cenu 149 tisíc Kč. - Die Velislaus-Bibel (auch Velislavova bible oder Velislai biblia picta) ist eine spätgotische Bilderhandschrift aus der Kategorie der Volkshandschriften, die zwischen 1325 und 1349 in Prag entstand. Von den ursprünglich 200 Blättern der Handschrift sind 188 Blätter mit 747 biblischen Szenen und kurzen Kommentaren im Stil einer Armenbibel erhalten. Die Illustrationen sind, wie es für eine Volkshandschrift typisch ist, größtenteils ohne besonderen künstlerischen Anspruch als Federzeichnung mit Tinte ausgeführt; einige wenige in Farbe.Die Bilderhandschrift wurde in der ersten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts von unbekannten Briefmalern im Auftrag des Kanonikers Velislav geschaffen. Velislav war Hofschreiber am Hofe Johanns von Böhmen in Prag; später blieb er als Notar und Diplomat im Dienste dessen Sohnes Karls IV.Velislav selbst ist auf fol. 188r kniend vor einer Statue der heiligen Katharina von Alexandrien abgebildet.Das Original wird in der Nationalbibliothek der Tschechischen Republik in Prag unter der Signatur XXIII.C.124 aufbewahrt. 2006 wurde die Velislaus-Bibel zum Nationalen Kulturdenkmal erklärt. La Biblia picta o Biblia de Velislao es un manuscrito iluminado de 1325-1349. El texto se limita a breves títulos o descripciones de las 747 imágenes del Antiguo y del Nuevo Testamento, de los escritos sobre el Anticristo y de las leyendas de los santos, especialmente de San Wenceslao. Por lo tanto, es un ejemplo de una Biblia pauperum, aunque no en la forma típica, que tiene muchas más imágenes. La mayoría de las iluminaciones son sólo en tinta, aunque se utiliza algo de color. El manuscrito tiene 188 folios en pergamino, con un tamaño de página de 307 x 245 mm. Se encuentra en la Biblioteca Nacional Checa (Národní knihovna Ceské republiky), Praga. El códice fue creado por varios artistas probablemente para Velislav el Canónigo (m. 1367), el notario de Juan I de Bohemia y su hijo Carlos IV, Emperador del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico, ambos con sede en Praga. It is therefore an example of a Biblia pauperum, though not in the typical form, having many more images. Most of the illuminations are only in ink, though some colour is used. The manuscript is of 188 folios on parchment, with a page size of 307 x 245 mm. It currently sits in the Czech National Library (Národní knihovna Ceské republiky), Prague. The codex was created by several artists probably for Velislav the Canon (d. 1367), the notary of John I of Bohemia and his son Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor, who were both based in Prague. (en)
