- Die Weißweinsorte Timorasso ist eine autochthone Sorte Norditaliens und eine sehr seltene Sorte des Piemont, wo sie in den Provinzen Alessandria, Asti und Cuneo zugelassen ist. In Italien wurde im Jahr 1999 eine bestockte Rebfläche von 51 Hektar erhoben, die sich hauptsächlich in den Tälern Valle Grue, Val Borbera und Val Curone befinden. Die Rebe ist seit dem 15. Jahrhundert in dem Gebiet aus den Hügeln bei Tortona bekannt. Im 19. Jahrhundert baute man sie häufig in einem Gebiet von Novara bis Tortona in der Provinz Alessandria, sowie bis Voghera in der Provinz Pavia an. Die Sorte wurde jedoch zunehmend zugunsten fruchtbarer Sorten aufgegeben. Ab 1987 wurde sie durch den Winzer Walter Massa wiederbelebt. Dies führte zu einer Renaissance dieser Sorte. Zurzeit wird sogar die Definition einer eigenen DOC diskutiert. Die spätreifende Sorte ist wuchsstark und mäßig ertragskräftig. Die reinsortigen Weißweine sind von kräftiger Säure und verfügen über einen hohen Alkoholgehalt. Der Wein findet reinsortig oder im Verschnitt Eingang in die Denominazione di origine controllata (kurz DOC) Weißweine der Colli Tortonesi. - Le timorasso est un cépage de cuve blanc présent principalement dans les provinces d'Alexandrie, d'Asti et de Coni, dans le Piémont italien. Il est relativement rare voire proche de l'extinction au XXe siècle mais connaît, en ce début de XXIe siècle, un fort engouement porté par une réputation de fort potentiel qualitatif établi par des producteurs, des négociants et des experts (Berry Bros. & Ruds parle du « plus excitant des cépages autochtones italiens à avoir refait surface dans les dernières années », Jancis Robinson parle de « l'un des vins les plus confidentiels d'Italie, [...] attire [notre] attention sur les délices du Timorasso, un vin blanc de très grande qualité »). Dans son Essai d'une ampélographie universelle, l'ampélographe italien Giuseppe di Rovasenda, mentionne brièvement le cépage en ces termes: « Bobbio. Alexandrie. Raisin blanc, très-bon, dont la culture est assez étendue dans les arrondissements de Novi et de Tortone. Feuilles cotonneuses ; grains ronds, gros ». There it is used to make aromatic wine with some aging potential as well as the pomace brandy specialty of grappa. Timorasso owes its modern-day existence to Walter Massa, a farmer of Monleale, a village in Piedmont, as the thick-skinned native variety was almost extinct in the early 1980s in the area of Tortona. Thanks to Massa pioneering efforts, by the late 1990s, other local producers began planting the grape variety themselves and there are now more than 20 firms growing and producing Timorasso. (en)
