- Thermographic printing refers to two types of printing, both of which rely on heat to create the letters or images on a sheet of paper. The simplest type of thermography is where the paper has been coated with a material that changes colour on heating. This is called thermal printing and was used in older model fax machines and is used in most shop till receipt printers. This is called direct thermal. More complex is thermal transfer printing that melts print off a ribbon and onto the sheet of paper. (en)
- Termorilievo è una tecnica di produzione in rilievo di immagini stampate per mezzo del calore. Il processo consiste nella copertura a caldo delle zone inchiostrate ancora fresche con polvere termoplastica la quale, poi, si fonde formando sull'inchiostro una copertura successivamente polimerizzata dall'azione di raffreddamento. In tal modo si possono ottenere stampati pluricolore in rilievo con effetti specifici: trasparenti, perlescenti, metallici, fluorescenti e glitter. Il processo termografico si deve alla Virkotype Corporation che nel 1945 negli Stati Uniti, brevettò una stampa a rilievo, diversa da quella classica, derivante dall'applicazione di resine naturali finemente macinate sullo stampato fresco d'inchiostro attraverso una macchina consistente in quattro sezioni: distribuzione a pioggia della polvere, rimozione della stessa, forno, raffreddamento. Le più moderne macchine termografiche hanno affinato tali processi facendo affermare il termorilievo come forma di nobilitazione grafica, come espressione artistica e come sistema di stampa di sicurezza. Questo perché il termorilievo non solo consente di aggiungere l'elemento tattile (il rilievo), ma anche di conseguire effetti ottici cangianti ottenibili con difficoltà con altre tecniche, quali, ad esempio la stampa a caldo. - Relieftryck är en tryckteknik där man trycker i traditionell offset. I anslutning till tryckpressen, innan tryckfärgen torkat appliceras ett thermografiskt pulver över trycksaken. Pulvret fastnar på färgen varefter papperet värms upp. Detta gör att texten eller bilden sticker upp ur papperet och man kan tydligt känna den med fingrarna som en blindskrift. Texten får dessutom en blank yta som om den var lackad. Detta är en teknik som lämpar sig mycket väl för exempelvis visitkort. (sv)

Прямий термодрук створює відображення шляхом вибіркового нагріву і охолодження невеликих елементів в термічній друкуючій головці, які контактують з папером, покритим хімічним шаром. Під час нагрівання папір темніє, що забезпечує контрастність символів штрихового коду. Цей спосіб завдяки керуванню комп'ютером нагрівальними елементами має можливість гнучкості при виборі знака штрихового коду та друку його з великою щільністю і чіткістю. Цей спосіб друку дозволяє швидко змінювати формат та зміст етикетки. Недоліком способу термодруку є те, що світла поверхня паперу з часом темніє під впливом температури або денного світла і штрихкодова позначка втрачає якість. (uk)
