- Los problemas de la filosofía (The Problems of Philosophy en inglés) es un libro de Bertrand Russell publicado en 1912, con el que intenta crear una guía breve y accesible para los problemas de la filosofía. Centrándose en los problemas que él cree que provocarán una discusión positiva y constructiva, Russell se ocupa del conocimiento epistemológico más que del metafísico. Russell guía al lector a través de su famosa distinción del año 1910 entre conocimiento directo (knowledge by acquaintance) y conocimiento por descripción (knowledge by description) e introduce importantes teorías de Platón, Aristóteles, René Descartes, David Hume, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, Georg Hegel y otros para sentar las bases para unos fundamentos filosóficos para estudiantes y público general. En las siguientes páginas me he circunscrito a aquellos problemas de la filosofía a los que creo es posible decir algo positivo y constructivo, en tanto que una simple crítica negativa parece estar fuera de lugar. Russell s'efforce, par le rappel de quelques conceptions classiques, de passer en revue afin de mieux situer sa propre démarche. Il pose les questions de la théorie de la connaissance et offre une introduction à la philosophie. Russell aborde sous le titre kantien : « comment la connaissance a priori est-elle possible ? », une question de la possibilité de l'application des mathématiques au monde empirique; comment comprendre, se demande Russell, ce pouvoir d'anticipation de l'expérience que semble posséder la mathématique, si on refuse la réponse kantienne des formes a priori de la sensibilité ? - The Problems of Philosophy is a 1912 book by the philosopher Bertrand Russell, in which the author attempts to create a brief and accessible guide to the problems of philosophy. He introduces philosophy as a repeating series of (failed) attempts to answer the same questions: Can we prove that there is an external world? Can we prove cause and effect? Can we validate any of our generalizations? Can we objectively justify morality? He asserts that philosophy cannot answer any of these questions and that any value of philosophy must lie elsewhere than in offering proofs to these questions. Focusing on problems he believes will provoke positive and constructive discussion, Russell concentrates on knowledge rather than metaphysics: If it is uncertain that external objects exist, how can we then have knowledge of them but by probability. There is no reason to doubt the existence of external objects simply because of sense data. Russell guides the reader through his famous 1910 distinction between knowledge by acquaintance and knowledge by description and introduces important theories of Plato, Aristotle, René Descartes, David Hume, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and others to lay the foundation for philosophical inquiry by general readers and scholars alike. In the following pages I have confined myself in the main to those problems of philosophy in regard to which I thought it possible to say something positive and constructive, since merely negative criticism seemed out of place.
