- The Iron Man: The Musical by Pete Townshend es el cuarto álbum de estudio del músico británico Pete Townshend, publicado por el sello Virgin Records en junio de 1989. El álbum, un nuevo trabajo conceptual tras la publicación de White City: A Novel tres años antes, es una adaptación de la novela de Ted Hughes y contó con la colaboración de músicos como Roger Daltrey, , John Lee Hooker y Nina Simone. En France, c'est I Eat Heavy Metal chanté par John Lee Hooker qui a servi de single sur les radios. On y retrouve une version interprétée par The Who du hit de Arthur Brown, Fire, Pete Townshend était d'ailleurs producteur associé avec Kit Lambert sur l'album de ce dernier avec son groupe The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. The three then-surviving original members of The Who (Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Townshend) performed as a group in two songs, "Dig" and "Fire", although the latter was a cover of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown's hit. (The Who would later perform "Dig" live during their 1989 reunion tour.) "A Friend Is a Friend" and "I Won't Run Anymore" were commercially released as singles; "Fire" was issued as a promo-only single in the United States. A stage version was mounted at the Young Vic theatre in London in 1993. On the strength of this, Warner Bros. optioned the story for a movie which, with a very different adaptation of the story, became The Iron Giant; Townshend received an Executive Producer credit. (en)
