- Die Stadtgeschichten (engl. Tales of the City) sind eine Romanreihe und eine Fernsehserie, welche von dem aus San Francisco stammenden Schriftsteller Armistead Maupin geschrieben wurden. Der erste Band trägt ebenfalls den Titel Stadtgeschichten. Die ersten vier Bücher der Reihe erschienen ursprünglich als Fortsetzungsgeschichten im San Francisco Chronicle, das fünfte Buch im San Francisco Examiner. Die nachfolgenden Bände wurden direkt als Romane veröffentlicht. In der Serie wird der Lebensstil in San Francisco in den 1970er- und 1980er-Jahren beschrieben, während die letzten Bücher nach 2000 spielen. Aspekte der sexuellen Orientierung sowie Gender und Transgender sind zentral in die Handlung eingebunden. Das Leben und die Karrieren einer Gruppe von Menschen, die sich an ihrem Wohnort Barbary Lane 28 kennenlernen, wird in einzelnen immer wieder verknüpften Handlungssträngen dargestellt. (de)
- Tales of the City is a series of nine novels written by American author Armistead Maupin from 1978 to 2014, depicting the life of a group of friends in San Francisco, many of whom are LGBT. The stories from Tales were originally serialized prior to their novelization, with the first four titles appearing as regular installments in the San Francisco Chronicle, while the fifth appeared in the San Francisco Examiner. The remaining titles were never serialized, but were instead originally written as novels. Tales of the City has been compared to similar serial novels that ran in other city newspapers, such as The Serial (1976; Marin County), Tangled Lives (Boston), Bagtime (Chicago), and Federal Triangle (Washington, D.C.). Characters from the Tales of the City series have appeared in supporting roles in Maupin's later novels Maybe the Moon and The Night Listener. (en)
