- Die Qualifikation für die Wettbewerbe im Taekwondo der Olympischen Sommerspiele 2020 sollte vom 6. Dezember 2019 bis 25. April 2020 erfolgen. Wegen der COVID-19-Pandemie wurde jedoch der Zeitraum verlängert. Jede Nation durfte maximal einen Athleten pro Wettkampf stellen, somit durfte jede Nation maximal acht Athleten (vier pro Geschlecht) stellen. Die Athleten erkämpften Quotenplätze für ihr jeweiliges Nationales Olympisches Komitee, dieses entschied, welcher Athlet bei den Spielen in Tokio antritt. In jeder Gewichtsklasse erhielten die besten fünf Athleten der olympischen Rangliste des World Taekwondo Quotenplätze. Sofern sich mindestens zwei männliche und zwei weibliche Athleten einer über die Ranglisten qualifizieren konnten, konnten Athleten dieser Nation nicht am jeweiligen kontinentalen Qualifikationsturnier teilnehmen, es sei denn, das NOK verzichtete auf einen durch die Ranglisten erkämpften Quotenplatz. Der japanischen Delegation standen als Gastgeber bis zu vier Quotenplätze zu, für die restlichen vier Gewichtsklassen wurden Einladungsplätze von der „Tripartite Commission“ vergeben. Zudem wurden bei kontinentalen Qualifikationsturnieren von Afrika, Asien, Europa und Panamerika jeweils zwei Plätze und im Qualifikationsturnier von Ozeanien ein Platz vergeben. Hatte ein NOK, das sich durch ein Qualifikationsturnier qualifiziert hatte, auf einen Quotenplatz verzichtet, wurde dieser der Nation des nächstbesten Athleten in der jeweiligen Gewichtsklasse dieses Turniers zugewiesen. - This article details the qualifying phase for taekwondo at the 2020 Summer Olympics. (The Olympics was postponed to at least 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The competition at these Games will comprise a total of 128 taekwondo fighters coming from their respective NOCs. Each NOC is allowed to enter up to one competitor per event, resulting in a maximum of eight competitors, four of each gender. Five quota places will be awarded to the top-ranked practitioners in each of the eight weight classes (four per gender) through the World Taekwondo (WT) Olympic rankings, while the highest-ranked practitioner of each weight category on merit points standing will grant one quota place each for their respective NOC through the WT Grand Slam Champions Series. If an NOC has qualified a minimum of two male and a minimum of two female athletes through ranking, it cannot participate in the respective Continental Qualification Tournament, unless it relinquishes the places obtained through ranking. Four places have been reserved to the host nation Japan, and another four have been invited by the Tripartite Commission. The remaining 120 places are allocated through a qualification process in which athletes have won quota place for their respective NOC. 48 taekwondo fighters, 24 in each gender and the top 6 in each weight category, are eligible to compete through the WT Olympic rankings, while the rest through the five Continental Qualification Tournaments. If an NOC having qualified through a Qualification Tournament relinquishes a quota place, it would be allocated to the nation of the next highest placed athlete in the respective weight category of that tournament as long as the addition of the place does not exceed the maximum quota for that nation. - Este artigo detalha a fase de qualificação do taekwondo nos Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de 2020. (As Olimpíadas foram adiadas para 2021 devido à pandemia de COVID-19). A competição nos Jogos terá um total de 128 atletas de taekwondo escolhidos pelos seus CONs. Cada CON pode inscrever um competidor por evento, resultando em um máximo de oito competidores, quatro por gênero. Cinco vagas serão concedidas aos atletas melhor ranqueados em cada uma das oito categorias de peso (quatro por gênero) através do ranking olímpico da (WT), enquanto o melhor atleta melhor ranqueado em cada categoria de peso em na classificação de pontos garantirá uma vaga para seu CON pela Série de Grand Slam da WT . Se um CON qualificou o mínimo de dois homens e duas mulheres pelo ranking, não poderá participar do respectivo Torneio Continental de Quallificação, a não ser que abdique das vagas obtidas pelo ranking. Quatro vagas foram reservadas para o país-sede, Japão, e outros quatro atletas foram convidados pela Comissão Tripartite. As 120 vagas restantes foram alocadas através de um processo de qualificação em que os atletas ganharam a vaga para o seu respectivo CON. 48 atletas do Taekwondo, 24 em cada gênero e os 6 melhores por categoria de peso, estão elegíveis para competir pelo ranking olímpico da WT, enquanto o restante através dos Torneios Continentais de Qualificação. Se um CON qualificado através de um Torneio de Qualificação abdicar de sua vaga, ela será alocada para a nação do atleta melhor classificado na respectiva categoria de peso daquele torneio, contanto que a adição da vaga não exceda a cota máxima para aquela nação.
