- Als Jocs Olímpics d'Estiu de 1988 celebrats a la ciutat de Seül (Corea del Sud) es disputaren 16 proves de taekwondo dins el programa dels Jocs, vuit en categoria masculina i vuit més en categoria femenina. Aquesta fou la primera vegada que aquest esport formà part dels programa olímpic tot i que com a esport de demostració. La competició tingué lloc entre els dies 17 i 20 de setembre de 1988 al Gimnàs Changchung. Participaren un total de 183 taekwondistes, entre ells 120 homes i 63 dones, de 35 comitès nacionals diferents. (ca)

It was the first time that the sport was included in the Olympic program; it would become an official sport twelve years later at the 2000 Games. A total of 120 men and 62 women from 35 nations competed in eight weight classes. Each event featured a single-elimination tournament to determine the winner. Competition was held at the Changchung Gymnasium from September 17 to 20. Fighters from the host nation of South Korea won nine of the sixteen events. (en)

Furono disputate sedici gare, otto maschili ed otto femminili; parteciparono 120 uomini e 63 donne, provenienti da 35 diverse nazioni. Gli atleti della Corea del Sud vinsero nove dei sedici eventi. - Taekwondo na Letnich Igrzyskach Olimpijskich 1988 w Seulu zostało rozegrane jako dyscyplina pokazowa podczas tych igrzysk. Turniej odbył się w dniach 17 – 20 września 1988 roku. Medali w tym turnieju nie przyznawano, jednak gdyby zostały one przyznane pierwsze, drugie i trzecie miejsca ułożyłyby się jak poniżej. Zawody odbyły się w hali Changchung Gymnasium. Udział wzięło 182 zawodników – 119 mężczyzn i 63 kobiety. (pl)
