- Strathspey (skotskou gaelštinou, Srath Spè), nebo také méně správně Speyside je údolní oblast kolem řeky Spey ve Skotsku, která je známá množstvím palíren single malt Skotské whisky, výskytem lososů a turistikou. - Die Speyside ist eine Region entlang des Flusses Spey in Schottland. Sie stellt keine geographische oder politisch-verwaltungstechnische Region dar. Vielmehr dient sie der regionalen Zusammenfassung von ungefähr 50 zurzeit produzierenden schottischen Whisky-Brennereien und der Abgrenzung gegenüber anderen Brennereien in Schottland. In der Speyside hergestellte Whiskys sollen eine gemeinsame Charakteristik haben: eher rund und fein, wenig bis gar nicht getorft. Die Speyside gilt als zentrale Whisky-Region Schottlands, da hier nicht nur die meisten und produktivsten Brennereien liegen, sondern auch Mälzereien, Böttchereien, Blender oder (unabhängige) Abfüllbetriebe. Viele der Speyside-Brennereien liegen nur wenige Kilometer voneinander entfernt; manche liegen in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft wie in den Orten Dufftown (mitunter als heimliche Whisky-Hauptstadt bekannt), Elgin oder Rothes. Einige bekannte Destillerien der Speyside sind Aberlour, Cragganmore, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Glen Grant, Glenfarclas, Knockando oder Macallan. Auch der Malt Whisky Trail liegt innerhalb der Speyside – das ist eine touristische Route, die acht der bekannteren Brennereien und eine Böttcherei verbindet. Als andere Whisky-Regionen Schottlands gelten die Lowlands, die Highlands und die Insel Islay. Mitunter werden hierzu noch eine Region der Inseln oder die Stadt Campbeltown genannt. Speyside zählt zwar zur geographischen Region Highlands, wird aber als eigene Whisky-Region betrachtet. Das Gebiet der Speyside umfasst ungefähr das heutige Verwaltungsgebiet (Council Areas) Moray beziehungsweise die traditionellen Grafschaften Morayshire und Banffshire. Eine einzelne, 1990 erbaute Brennerei in Drumguish trägt ebenfalls den Namen Speyside bzw. The Speyside. Der hier produzierte Whisky wird als Single-Malt-Whisky unter den Namen Speyside und Drumguish verkauft. (de)

- Strathspey (Scottish Gaelic: Srath Spè, [s̪t̪ɾa ˈs̪peː]) is the region around the strath of the River Spey, Scotland, split between the Moray council area and the Badenoch and Strathspey committee area of Highland. The term Strathspey usually refers to the upper part of the strath from the source of the Spey down to the capital, Grantown-on-Spey, whereas the anglicised form, Speyside, refers to the area from Grantown-on-Spey to the mouth of the river at Spey Bay. Recently there has been some controversy over attempts to anglicise the name into Spey Valley. The tourist area from the south starts at Dalwhinnie and continues North along the A9 towards Newtonmore, Kingussie, Aviemore and on towards Grantown-on-Spey. The Canadian merchant Robert Simpson, founder of Simpson's department store, was born there in 1834. Speyside is one of the main centres of the Scotch whisky industry, with a high concentration of single malt distilleries in the region, including the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries. Scotland's Malt Whisky Trail is a tourism initiative featuring seven working Speyside distilleries, a historic distillery and the Speyside Cooperage. The concept was created in the early 1980s. The region is a natural for whisky distillers because of three benefits: it is close to barley farms, contains the River Spey and is close to the port of Garmouth. The region also hosts the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. (en)

The is een toeristische toer gewijd aan single malt whisky en men bezoekt dan op deze tocht 8 distilleerderijen en een Speyside kuiperij. In deze streek langs de rivier Spey zijn in onder andere de dorpen Elgin, Buckie, Rothes en Dufftown ongeveer 50 distilleerderijen gevestigd waar de single malt whisky wordt geproduceerd.Daaronder zijn de meest bekende merken Cragganmore, Balvenie, Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet, Glen Moray Single Malt, Aberlour Single Malt en The Macallan. Sommigen rekenen ook Ardmore Single Malt tot Speyside, maar Ardmore ligt net ten oosten van het gebied en behoort tot de whisky's. Single malt whisky's zijn whisky's afkomstig van één distilleerderij. Deze whisky's zijn vaak wat 'ruiger' van smaak; bijvoorbeeld de whisky's uit het westen van Schotland kenmerken zich door een zilte, jodium-achtige smaak. Single malts worden gedistilleerd in koperen potketels. Tijdens het bereiden past men de techniek eesten toe, waarbij de gerst wordt verhit boven een vuur dat vaak ook een deel turf bevat. Deze turf of juist het ontbreken ervan heeft een sterke invloed op de uiteindelijke smaak van de whisky. (nl)
