- L'activitat d'una mostra de substància radioactiva és el nombre de desintegracions nuclears que es produeixen al llarg del temps. Per a un interval de temps determinat, l'activitat és el nombre mitjà de desintegracions nuclears que es produeixen per cada unitat de temps, és a dir, el nombre total de desintegracions entre aquest interval de temps. Se li sol assignar el símbol A. En el sistema internacional es mesura en becquerels, Bq, cadascun dels quals equival a una desintegració per segon. També s'utilitza tradicionalment el curie, Ci, una unitat molt més gran. L'activitat depèn només del nucli atòmic particular (del seu nombre de protons i del de neutrons) en què ocorre i del tipus d'activitat (activitat alfa, activitat beta). Formalment indica com varia el nombre de nuclis d'una mostra al llarg del temps. L'activitat específica és l'activitat d'una mostra per unitat de massa o per unitat de volum, i s'usa molt a legislació i per comparar materials diferents per la seva natura, independentment de la seva mida. Aktivita je veličina související s radioaktivitou. Její jednotkou v soustavě SI je becquerel (Bq), který odpovídá jedné přeměně za sekundu. Podobnou jednotkou je curie (Ci), jež odpovídá 3,7×1010 Bq. Jelikož je pravděpodobnost radioaktivní přeměny při stejném množství téhož nuklidu stálá, tak je stálý i počet atomů, u kterých dojde k přeměně za jednotku času (pokud se ve vzorku nachází dostatek atomů na to, aby byl vliv statistických odchylek zanedbatelný). Activity is a quantity (for which the SI unit is the becquerel) related to radioactivity, and is defined as the number of radioactive transformations per second that occur in a particular radionuclide. The unit of activity is the becquerel (Bq), which is defined as one radioactive decay per second. The older, non-SI unit of activity is the curie (Ci), which is 3.7×1010 radioactive decay per second. Another unit of activity is the Rutherford, which is defined as 1×106 radioactive decay per second. Since the probability of radioactive decay for a given radionuclide within a set time interval is fixed (with some slight exceptions, see changing decay rates), the number of decays that occur in a given time of a given mass (and hence a specific number of atoms) of that radionuclide is also a fixed (ignoring statistical fluctuations). Thus, specific activity is defined as the activity per unit mass of a particular radionuclide. It is usually given in units of Bq/kg, but another commonly used unit of activity is the curie (Ci), allowing specific activity to be given the unit Ci/g. The amount of specific activity should not be confused with level of exposure to ionizing radiation and thus the exposure or absorbed dose.
