- Die Sea Cloud ist ein Luxuskreuzfahrtsegelschiff mit Viermastbark-Rigg. Im Jahre 1931 wurde sie im Auftrag des US-amerikanischen Multimillionärs und Börsenmaklers Edward Francis Hutton (1875–1962) als größte und luxuriöseste jemals gebaute Privatsegelyacht der Welt mit der Takelage einer Viermastbark von der Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft in Kiel unter dem Namen Hussar V gebaut. Nach Kriegseinsätzen als US-Küstenwachschiff, mehr als sechsfachem Besitzerwechsel, langen Liegezeiten und drohendem Abwracken wurden die Luxusräume Restaurierungsarbeiten unterzogen. Heute wird sie unter dem Namen Sea Cloud von der Hamburger Firma „Sea Cloud Cruises GmbH“ für Kreuzfahrten betrieben und bereedert, die auch die Schiffe Sea Cloud II sowie Sea Cloud Spirit einsetzt. Launched as a private yacht as Hussar V for Marjorie Merriweather Post in 1931, she later served as a weather ship for the United States Coast Guard and United States Navy during World War II, when she became the U.S. military's first racially integrated warship since the American Civil War. After the war, Sea Cloud was returned to private ownership, serving as a yacht for numerous people, including as presidential yacht of the Dominican Republic. - Sea Cloud – jeden z największych żaglowców świata, obecnie wykorzystywany jako jednostka typowo turystyczna w rejsach kilku- kilkunastodniowych dla spragnionych wrażeń urlopowiczów. Atrakcją jest tradycyjny takielunek obsługiwany przez dostatecznie liczną obsługę – zawodowych żeglarzy, oraz typowo hotelowe luksusowe wnętrza ze słynną kuchnią. Żaglowiec powstał w 1931 jako prezent podarowany przez amerykańskiego milionera E. F. Hutton swojej żonie, Marjorie Merriweather Post. Tak więc historia powstania żaglowca jest zupełnie nietypowa, szczególnie jeśli chodzi o jednostkę tej wielkości. Pierwotnie nosił nazwę Huzar i w momencie powstania był największym żaglowcem świata. Powstał li tylko dla splendoru i rozrywki, nie jest jednak pałacem na wodzie i ma w sobie wszystkie cechy typowego tradycyjnego żaglowca. Jedyną różnicą w porównaniu ze współczesnymi mu jednostkami jest to, że zamiast ładowni miał od momentu powstania kabiny pasażerskie. Także dziś na pokładzie codziennością są prace bosmańskie, stawianie żagli wymaga wspinaczki na reje, a wszelkie manewry wymagają dużej krzątaniny całej załogi. Stosowanie silników jest ograniczane do minimum. Pomimo luksusowych hotelowych wnętrz żaglowiec nie jest typowym dla współczesnych statków turystycznych "miastem rozrywki" z basenami, kasynami, itd. Właściciel stara się zachować dla swoich gości jak najwięcej elementów tradycyjnej żeglarskiej przygody – nawet mimo tego, że goście są tylko obserwatorami czynności wykonywanych przez załogę. Pielęgnowane są również wszelkie inne elementy żeglarskiej tradycji. Żaglowiec można właściwie nazwać żywym pływającym pomnikiem. Żaglowiec kilkakrotnie przechodził z rąk do rąk, zawsze wożąc wyjątkowych gości. Obecnie armatorem jest niemiecka firma Sea Cloud Cruises, utrzymująca w celach turystycznych również kilka innych jednostek – w tym jeszcze jeden żaglowiec, znacznie nowocześniejszy – Sea Cloud II. Od 1983 kapitanem Sea Cloud jest Polak Ryszard Choiński, były dowódca m.in. legendarnego Daru Pomorza. W międzynarodowej załodze pochodzącej z wielu krajów oraz wśród kadry oficerskiej pływa również kilku innych Polaków. (pl)
